FS: Pioneer KURO 60" 1080P Plasma (6020FD) $4899.99
The regular price is $5999.99 with a $555.56 discount and there's an additional 10% off tonight and tomorrow night; it prices out at $4899.99 when added to the cart. The 10% off sale isn't supposed to apply to TV's on sale, but it appears to work with this item. Could be an error on the website.

Still expensive, but possibly the cheapest I've seen this tv at.

Reason: 10% discount shouldn't apply but it works

Sigh... if I drink enough, maybe I can get my priorities appropriately rearranged.

If you have the money, this is the one of the best TVs you can get out there. Plasmas have always been leaps and bounds ahead of LCD in terms of producing blacks and no motion blur but a Pioneer is just the cream of the crop. That is like buying a Hyundai compared to a BMW. This TV would be amazing for watching movies and sports shows on.
Personally, I wouldn't even touch Sharp LCD TVs. My personal ranking of companies based on plasma and LCD:
LCD: Sony, Samsung
Plasma: Panasonic/Pioneer, Samsung

Aren't Sony's XBR like top of the class and better than any LCD and even comparable to plasmas? Thats what Ive read on some places. Depending on the person though, they could be interchangeable.

People will disagree with me on this...
but
normal tv i.e 480i looks way better on plasmas than compared to lcds... mostly has to do with the line doubler and the nature of lcd.
LCD seems to look best at its native res.

I thought the Friends and Family sale did not apply 10% to already on sale goods. according to the double asterisk.
"**Excludes, sale, open-box,discontinued and clearance models."

When you add it to the cart, the 10% is taken off the sale price, so perhaps this is an error on the website. I noticed the 50" KURO doesn't take an additional 10% off when added to the cart.

Don't plasma's consume more electricity then a LCD?

Yes that's the major downside of plasma's for now. They are working on fixing that issue. I mean if you really are green concerned, go for LCD. Personally though, I don't pay my electricity bill yet so I'm not concerned and if you live in an apartment, it wouldn't really matter. But ye, if you really are budget tight, you can't go wrong with a cheaper TV and a lower electricity bill.
It also depends on your usage. If you plan on plugging it in and running it up to 8-10 hours a day, you will see some damage in your bill. I only use the TV for maybe 5 hours at most, weekends are higher but overall, its not as bad.

Last I checked, the Sony panel is still made by Samsung. I know that Sony is looking at other options to compete better with Sammy, but for now I think that is still true.
Back on topic, this Pioneer is one of the best HDTVs you can buy, but it's still too much money for most people.
