I sincerely doubt they're going to let you open up used games before you buy.

Really? Then I'd NOT buy there.... why would they not let you open it up and have a look? If you've had that experience with your local FS, I'd ask for the manager... it shouldn't be that big of a deal for them. I know they're busy playing on their smart phones, but how hard is it for them to pop them open?

They have plastic wrap around it that they would need to redo. I've never asked to do this, but I assume they'll say no and point at their "used game guarantee": "if it doesn't work, we'll replace it, so there's really no need to open it!".

And in the interest of fairness, I should state that my recent order of $4.99-$9.99 games from FS and BB (they added a ton of new listings this week) was mostly a positive experience. No horror stories, only one missing manual, and overall, I was quite pleased. And as stated, I was confident buying used right now simply because no rental stores are closing or offering clearances.

But I still refuse to pay more than $9.99 for any used game there, as those are the dangerous ones they like to hook you on.

+1 Thanks DaWinman, my sentiments exactly. Oh man, I got really burned last week at Future Shop. Ok, so in the past I've purchased several used games online (maybe around 4) over the course of two or three months, and I never had a problem with the condition at either FS or BB. But mind you, I bought games that you would consider either greatest/platinum hits or fairly new (released within the year). Well, I just bought a used copy of Disgaea 4 for $29.99 from FS. When I got it delivered and looked at the front (still unopened from the plastic wrap and stickers they put on) it looked fine.

However, when I removed the plastic (saran wrap type) from the game, and took a closer inspection, I opened up the game to find the manual in ruins, and the Blu-ray disc actually with 2 scratches. It plays fine, but I was disappointed (I hate scratches). The worst part was when you remove that stupid black paper from the back insert cover. When I removed that, the actually back insert cover was totally ripped to shreds. I should've just paid $39.99 for a new (gutted) copy at EB. Actually, come to think of it, the worst part was when I realized BB had a used copy of Disgaea 4 for $24.99. F. Too bad they can't price protect on used games (not that I tried, but it was already sold out by the time I found it on BB).

I went to FS to complain about it, and I was polite to them, and they were polite back, but they said they couldn't take it back. So I guess it takes a bit of luck at times to know when or when not to buy a used game from FS & BB. At least at EB you can view the game disc, case, manual, and insert cover before making a commitment to purchase. Most likely I'm going to trade it to EB to see what TIV I can get, and save the credit toward Asura's Wrath or Ni No Kuni.

Hope this info helps make others aware about the condition of the game. Thank goodness that older titles don't have the online pass fiasco to deal with either; that's a whole other kettle of worms right there. Peace.

Back on topic....Just picked one up from downtown Edmonton and all of the new, sealed Platinum Hits Condemned are marked as "used" for $4.99.

Same here in Quebec City at Les galeries de la capitale.

I just checked during lunch and they had a good 10+ copies on the shelves, all platinum hits and brand new.

I played this game and had a LOT of fun, but it has some intense / scary moments... I also loved the follow-up. For 5$ it's a no-brainer if you're into that kind of game. It's a FPS with some CSI elements thrown in (look for trails, blood splatters, take pictures, etc...)

Yeah, they love to hide a lot of stuff behind the "black paper", and in my last shipment, I got 2 more "surprises" I didn't know about (I left the black paper in there and just examined the innards) - one bigass Blockbuster sticker and one Rogers sticker, both totally impossible to remove.

Sometimes the black paper is all you have at the back since the back cover is missing

I have not had a missing back cover yet (knocking soundly on wood) but that "water-logged and moldy" back cover was certainly a "nice surprise".
