what happens - could be a few things - does it try to light - make the thermostat ask for heat and peer in to see if it is trying to spark

Do you have an high eff furnace? Does the blower run non-stop? Does it have a circuit board with diag lights on it?
Last year, something similar happened to my 5 year old high eff furnace. According to my diag board, one of the sensors was stuck open (temperature sensor).
This was a result of me not replacing the filter in time. So the furnace didn't have enough cold air go through it, to cool it down.. so it tripped the sensor.
These sensors reset themselves after a while (unless this is a common problem, in which point they fuse in open position.. and you need to get a new one). The sensor goes for <20$ on eBay .. or ~200$ installed by a local HVAC guy. Hence, why I have a spare sitting next to my furnace now.
This might be your problem. Best get a pro to take a look if you don't know what you're doing.

Details, you did not provide details! here are some ideas:
Thermostat hooked up and working?
I am no HVAC guy so anything more that I would not mess with. I like all of my limbs attached.
O yeah....and don't risk injury. Call an HVAC guy and pay the $100. Then again, depending on the furnace (and finances) it might be better to make a quick decision on a new furnace. Those things can be expensive to repair.

Maybe you have all the registers closed in the house?
