akg is a good brand and this looks like a good price. i was looking for some smaller ones, 181's i believe, and they were around this price when i looked.
as for being one of the best, i think most would argue nothing under 100bux even qualifies for that. but for most ppl we don't really need much better than this, so if you're looking for a good pair of headphones and aren't in the 'community' that likes to buy $500+ headphones and then mod them, these should be plenty good enough

Seems like a good price on these cans. I might just try them out since Futureshop's return policy is pretty good.

I DJ and own a pair of Shure SRH750DJ's and a pair of Shure SRH440's and have owned a number of other headphones. These are the Best headphones I have owned. Great accurate sound but a ton of bass and super comfortable (I have a big head). They are also very well built. These are the headphones to buy.

How about listening to them before you decide that it was a :/ decision? A year ago I was debating M50 vs Shure 440 vs Shure 840. I listened to the Shures and did not like them (840 too bulky & heavy, 440 didn't sound as good), so I got the M50 and I have been happy with it since.
Now, back to the AKG, did anyone have achance to listen to them and can compare them to, say, M50?

These sound 5 times better than my cheap in ear or old around ear headphones with my phone and some bass heavy/Queen tracks. I have the volume just shy of full and it's about perfect for listening without blowing my ear drums out. I haven't broken these in and don't consider my self an audiophile, but I can actually hear a lot more sounds going on and can distinguish very clearly the separation between the different sounds and instruments. The headband fits nicely and the construction seems pretty solid though I would prefer if the cord was thicker, braided and/or made more durable.
The one real complaint I have with these(which will cause me to return if my ears get sore after a couple hours) is that they are ON EAR headphones, just like it states on the AKG website. Futureshop has these listed as OVER EAR which is WRONG.
*ugh, Futureshop has it as over ear in their specs, and as on ear in the marketing more info section below that._______________
