i had an extended warranty with FS for a digital receiver..bell for their satellite tv channels etc.
my tv remote broke..it took a LOTTA hassle with the sales rep and a LOT of wasted time getting a new remote
first.i went direclty to the same store i bought it from.the guy says..you need to call this number..no need to come instore..
i call the number on the flyer he gives me..says they can't do ANYTHING for me over the phone..i go to the store..UGH so wasted a trip.and spent 1hr waiting on the phone to reach a cust. service rep
go to the store..guy INSISTS i still call the number..after talking and talking..checking with boss.he says he'll do it..
proving it was broken didn't take too long..but they kept on saying it should only take a week we'll call you...two weeks pass..nothing..i call back..they said it should be there soon...eventually i get the remote after 1 month +..brand new..doesn't come with insturctions or anything.
just a lotta hassle..they have pretty crappy customer service imo..
KNOW THAT FS reps get extra commission on selling extended warranties.i've never tried getting anything bigger than a remote.but i can IMAGINE it being bad
also..i remmeber seeing STREET CENTS on cbc a longgggggggg time ago..(its a show helping you 'spend' your money on quality items..does reviews of products..budgeting etc.) it had a special on FS and their warranties..they said NEVEr get it..guy bought a hard drive or something. didn't read the fine print.
they just refused..etc..REPS SAy its a lot better than it actually is..LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked CHINAdeals for this post.

I'm by far not a supporter of Extended Warranties, especially so from Futureshop..
That said, a friend of mine just recently seems to have had a hassle free claim on the warranty with his laptop. It was nearing the end of the 3yr term and he had problems with the actual system and he broke the power cable.. brought it in and they sent it away for a couple weeks, and returned him a totally new (refurbished) system.
I was actually surprised._______________
Beans, beans, the magically fruit. The more you eat, the more you toot. The more you toot, the better you feel. So eat your beans at every meal.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked FastFokker for this post.

thanks for the response guys
yeah mine is coming up into the beginning of the extended warranty with the manufacturer warranty closing in.
should i get it looked at with manufacturer warranty or with future shop?
the problem with my laptop is it gets REAL HOT, that the button to open the screen and fold upwards MELTED on me so it doesn't close as well as it use to. that should be reason enough to send it in and get something 'refurbished'?LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked Dizzle11 for this post.

I am not a fan of extended warranty. However, one of the selling point (they claim) of extended warranty is you ONLY need to deal with Futureshop so that you can "avoid" the problem dealing with the manufacturer and have "better" customer experience.
I personally don't buy that (both the extended warranty and their claim) but you pay for that already. It does not hurt to try. Okay, I should say "may be it does not hurt to try".LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked gman for this post.

just bought a toshiba laptop 2 days ago. decided not to get the warrenty. my sisters laptop broke down a few times (mainly viruses). all they did was reformat, which i could do and one time the HD crashed. I would think its cheaper to get the HD replaced one time than get teh warranty. lets assume 200 bucks for the HD replacement and 400 for the warranty.

i've never gotten something that expensive warrantied throught the mftg...usually going into a store is easier..talk with a sales rep..try fs first..if not .mftg.. but do it fast..so you have time.. just don't take no as an answer..it sounds like you have a legitimate claim ..
mftg's warranties vary b/w companies...my toothbrush was damn expensive..and phillips (the maker) fully guaranteed everything for like 2 years..sweet deal.it broke on me..just wouldn't turn on and they sent me a brand new set..easy does it..it doens't go over as well for diff. companies..

thanks for the advice, i figure if they keep trying to push no on me i'll start a big scene infront of the store to scare off all other customers lol
but seriously, they say if it 'breaks down' from normal wear and tear they will try and fix it and if they cant fix it they will give u a replacement credit (which is something i wouldn't mind so i can get something different from a gateway laptop!!) i prefer not to get this fixed only to break down on me later on or get a refurbished laptop from gateway.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked Dizzle11 for this post.
