Had a $120 FS gift card so this seems a good buy, hopefully won't get a bad refurbished unit that I will have to replace.

I ordered this last month for the same price. I already had to send it in for repair. I guess that is the risk with refurb computers. Other than that the computer ran fairly smooth, touch screen was great, amazing battery life, but i didn't like the keyboard.

Saw this on Microsoft Store with the Office software deal.
Here is the link to the laptop itself: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msc ... _GooglePLA
Here is the promo: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msc ... o_07112014
If you get the Office Personal at $70, the total with the laptop and office is $520 plus taxes.
Spec sheet here: http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/mod ... .MBGAA.006

Which is the better deal compared to the refurbished FS deal? I think the specs are at par except for maybe less resolution. Non refurb plus comes with Office.

So for the Microsoft deal, once you have bundled up the notebook with office for $150 off, how do you apply the student deal?

looking for a laptop around this price range. Should I get the Acer or the Lenovo?

I bought the lenovo. But, if the screen resolution is not your concern, I'd say Acer has better spec. 8GB ram does make a difference. Touchscreen is optional, since everyone has a tablet now. Who cares if a laptop has touch screen or not.
