They usually go for at least twice as much, and recently there have been reported successes with rooting and running ICS (with native FLAC support) on them.

Sound quality has been said to be superior to most devices, and there's always apps to download from Google Play if you aren't satisfied with the stock player app. The earphones that they come with (EX300s) aren't too shabby either.
Edit: Sold out online. YMMV instore. The Sony Store is also doing pricematching with both red and black, though they're also running out of inventory.

I think it says it's $20 off regular price.

If you've looked at its price in the past few months that doesn't seem to be the case. I searched up the Z Walkman in the Hot Deals section and the only thing that came up was $199 at FS/BB in July.
Here it is: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/fs-bb...0-off-1205724/
Also, when I looked in the flyer there were supposed to be 600 units, so I suspect that they're desperate to get rid of them all.

desperate? $130x600 = $78k, each unit is about 2 soap size, not much value and not much warehouse space, how can FS be desperate? Sony may be more eager to sell them out, because it is discontinued, sony does not want to support them.

This thing is designed to be a MP3 players (unlike phones), it has better sound quality and the awesome walkman button combined with really hard to beat price. You wont find any phone ANYWHERE close to this price range that'll be as good as this. Nexus 4 is like $350, this is $120. Not to mention the Nexus 4 is sold out everywhere.

Recent ICS update has really made this device an usable and competent media player. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend this player to anyone.
It sounds fantastic though. Not something you can get from i-devices or most consumer grade players. (Not if you connect them to a DAC and portable amp)

What was wrong with Gingerbread (2.3.4)? In the first look vid above it looked really smooth and awesome.

I think it is a nice mp3 player and I would certainly give it serious consideration before buying an ipod of similar size, especially at this price.

Before the ICS update, it was sluggish and could lag more than 1 second when I tried to browse through the library. (I have 32gb model with only 10gb of music)
It got worse when music was playing but the screen was turned off for more than 10 minutes. It could take 2~3 seconds to unlock the screen and up to 4 seconds to access the media library again.
I had to stare at the screen waiting for the menu to show up all the time. Not a FUN experience.
On top of that, there was no on the go playlist and the default video player couldn't even play avi file (easy fix but it goes to show how crappy it used to be)
Thankfully, this ICS update has solved most of the problem. I did buy this player knowing it will get an ICS update. Otherwise I probably would have returned it.

Newbie
It would be great if it had an external SD card slot.

As far as best bang for the buck, nothing will ever beat a 2G Sansa Clip+ with a 32gb microSD card.
