Gaining college diploma during after work/evening times possible in Ontario?
Hola
I am a working individual, and I cannot afford to leave my day job to go further my studies. I have no university or college level qualifications, just my experience.
I want to gain a college/university level diploma during night school. Amazingly I can't find any of the major colleges and even universities in South Ontario catering for the working person. Only private career colleges have 1 year diplomas such as TriOS and Everest. I have heard horror stories about these career colleges and their diplomas are mostly shunned by hiring managers/employers. These career college diplomas are not even recognized by local universities or higher colleges so I can't even transfer credits gained.
Anyone have any advice? Btw I am in the IT field.
Thanks.

Have you looked at The Chang School at Ryerson. I have some friends who take evening courses that starts at 6:30 PM.
What program are you interested in taking?

Hola
Thanks for the info. I did check out Ryerson's continuing education portal... but again they seem to only have certificate programs.
To be frank about it all, I would probably say that the only reason that I want a diploma/degree at the moment is because it is a minimum requirement to have such when applying for jobs. Yes I will of course make the best of the program I do undertake but one cannot move into better positions without the min. requirements. I am good at what I do, which is namely data capture implementation with lots of network administration. My main weakness is not knowing basic scripting languages such as VBScript of PowerShell (I depend heavily on my development team). Any program that can help me with this will surely benefit me.
I also found out that most of the main colleges don't have career/guidance counselors for new applying students. I have email several, Sheridan and Seneca, both just telling me to check their website. I am next going to see what YorkU or UofT can help me with. I am trying to avoid any downtown campuses as I finish work usually between 5 and 530PM.

I've taken classes at college and University (in IT as well). I don't believe colleges offer night courses, except for certificates. Actually, past 4pm I barely see anyone at college, lol! But you will likely be able to take night classes at University. Universities typically offer night classes (at least mines does) from 7-10pm. Hope this helps! Good luck with your search.
