Hi All,
Just purchased a Galaxy Nexus (Kijiji), can't seem to get any kind of signal but it does detect the SIM card (says Rogers at the lock screen and also has the APN info), tried it with 1 Fido and 2 Rogers.
When I go into Network Operators no network is available for selection.

Firstly all Galaxy Nexus' come unlocked so no need to worry about the SIM..
Now with the reception part.. Have you tried turning off the phone for about 10-15 minutes yet? Might need to refresh things that way.
If It still doesn't work then try inserting that SIM Into another phone and see If you have reception on the other phone. I highly doubt It's the SIM's fault but might be the device Itself.
Other then that I'd suggest factory resetting the phone meaning a full wipe as to how you would boot up a phone for the first time. I don't know how to do this for Android phones so you'll have to figure that out yourself If they even have that feature!
Good Luck!_______________

Is airplane mode on in the notification bar? I doubt its on, but just in case
Can you connect to the internet?
Anyone know if you have to be rooted to obtain and use GetRIL?
edit: Could probably also use WUG's Toolkit to restore to a clean 4.1 rom.Last edited by coriolis; Jul 29th, 2012 at 10:10 PM.

Not in airplane mode.
Tried resetting it several times, none of the three SIMs seem to work.

First off to OP, you might want to move your thread here: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/cell-phones-f88/ Surprised the others didn't pick up on it heh.
Secondly, that's really weird there is no reception or signal. Do this, go to Settings, then About phone and look for Radio/baseband version. Look for i9250xxlf1. If that's the right one you should be fine and a factory wipe/reset should do the trick. If that's not the radio/baseband, then the seller who sold you the phone prolly mucked this up by installing a different radio/baseband. If that were the case, I would ask the seller how he/she updated the phone to JB and if a root was performed. I'd also ask the seller to fix the problem for you and if not, get your money back. '
On another note, you should have tested the phone with your sim card to make sure you can make/receive a call.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Cheers.
Let OP figure out if the seller updated to JB via OTA or flashed it and if a root was performed. Either way, OP if need be, I could help you out in person if you'd like to get it working, etc. Keswick ain't that far from where I live heh._______________

How difficult is that to preform, I'm pretty computer savvy but never used an android before today.
Will I receive OTA updates in the future?

To factory wipe or to use the toolkit? Toolkit is straightforward with the right instructions, but if you want I can also try that method for you, if the factory reset does not do the trick.
Hmm, that's weird then. Correct radio too.
Before you do anything, try to get a hold of the seller if you can and see if his sim card can work. Its not an issue with the sim card I hope, as I assume it was working fine before you got the phone?
Go to status under about phone and see what is displayed under network and if it displays your phone #_______________

Yeah but the thing Is we don't really know If the seller Is being honest or not.. If It really was working 100% before he sold It then I would understand of refusing a refund and what not.. But now I'm just implying that he's a scammer since It's not working as intended right away when purchased etc!
