wow, thanks for your quick and detailed response.
just want to make sure I understand you. before step 17, the bold text means I should do step 14 before doing each of the steps within step 17?
also, by doing this, would I get future updates OTA or do I need to repeat similar process each time??

You're most welcome.
To clarify with your question, yes. You should be in bootloader mode in order to flash all the images. Sometimes after flashing the images, usually it reboots your phone into the normal mode. Just make sure to boot into the bootloader mode again. Also I forgot to mention, when turning off the phone in normal mode, make sure to remove the USB cable. Then go into bootloader mode, and then plug the USB cable back in.
Yup by doing this you will get future OTA updates permanently before the yakjuux versions of the phones._______________

Hello,
I'm looking into upgrading my Galaxy Nexus too... and I was just wondering if your instructions is basically the same ones as to the ones found on the XDA forums...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ht=wind+mobile
but instead you used a tool kit and upgraded it to 4.1.1 directly instead of waiting for the OTA notification for system upgrades from 4.0.4 right??

Can we just get the Factory Images "takju" for Galaxy Nexus "maguro" (GSM/HSPA+) (with Google Wallet) instead? Like I feel Google wallet is going to come in handy in the near future :P

Well it pretty much is, except for the fact that I am giving instructions for using the toolkit in proper order.
Initially there was no factory image online at Google for Jelly Bean 4.1.1 yakju devices. So one had to flash to yakju 4.0.4 and then get the OTA. Now the image is online and one can download that instead and flash that vs the previous version and flashing.
Yes you can flash to takju if you'd like but it'd be pointless if you don't have Google Wallet set up and some places don't accept it yet. I know Tim Hortons it works, but you need to root your phone in order for it to work in Canada.
People with yakju devices will be able to use mobile payments down the road, as the Galaxy Nexus has NFC_______________

I have a little concern regarding buying galaxy nexus from carriers.
when I called or went to local stores for both bell and rogers, all except for one bell store, they all told me the phone is locked. so I'm a bit confused now.
also, by doing this process, would it unlock the phone anyway if for some reason it's actually locked?

Dude, don't get sucked in by that speel by carriers. It has been mentioned here on RFD (you can even search if you'd like) that the phone is factory unlocked. All Nexus devices are factory unlocked, from the Nexus One up to the Galaxy Nexus. So whatever they say is totally bs. They're just telling you its locked so they can lock you in a contract. Its their job to do so. Just don't listen to them and listen to us lol.
As it is, this process won't unlock your phone, because its null/void since your phone is factory unlocked. So don't worry. Us Galaxy Nexus users can vouch for you.
The Galaxy Nexus phones are all FACTORY UNLOCKED
Android OS updates for the Galaxy Nexus are pushed by Samsung aka yakjuux devices. Android US updates for the Galaxy Nexus in the US are pushed by Google aka yakju devices. You will still get the OTA nevertheless BUT it will take longer.
Example, Jelly Bean update for yakju devices - ASAP, vs Jelly Bean update for yakjuux devices, a month or two later.
Hope this makes sense, especially to those who have doubts/questions about the phone.Last edited by djemzine; Jul 30th, 2012 at 10:29 AM.

Well its totally up to you. Carriers don't push out updates for this phone since its factory unlocked, pure Vanilla Android, and no carrier bloatware. So its Samsung who decides when to push the update. Perhaps it might be sometime in August, who knows.
If you do flash to yakju, you'll be the first of the lot to get updates from Google vs Samsung. That's one advantage._______________
