Finished the second book last week, well in time before series 2. Can't wait to see it unfold. I enjoyed the book even though I preferred the first one more. A lot more politicking in series 2.
Tyrion just grows from strength to strength. Sometimes I find myself reading on just so I can get to the next chapter with Tyrion's POV. Daenerys is cool too, although I think her story took a backstep in this book since it was more to do with the "Clash of Kings".
Book 3 looks good already. Guy, read the books. As good as the series are, the books are so layered and textured that the series doesn't even come close (nor can it) to capturing it all.

Yup I am ready too. Recently just got my sister and mom hooked to the series and they keep asking me when the 2nd season comes out. I am even tempted to go and read the books!

I can't wait. Loved every episode in Season 1 but to be honest, it's going to be different without Sean Bean. I love that guy (nohomo). Quintessential bad-ass even when he's just a terrible facsimile a la Ronin. Haha!
I wanna see the new king get his head cut off in Season 2 then I can die happy.

Almost 5M hits in a week, apparently some kind of record: http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/02/01/ga...railerrecords/
Starting to look like a safe bet the premier for the second season will smash every record HBO has and become the defining program for the network, something every other network will be taking note of and looking to replicate.
Will be interesting to see what other epic fantasy series get realized the next couple of years, Rothfuss seems almost a sure bet, after that not so sure, Erickson would be interesting but need an effects budget of $3 Trillion...._______________
There is only one king and his name is Dalglish.

Never read the books, but just finished season 1 and HBO FINALLY has a winner.

A lot of epic scenes in here. However, I was a little confused with the whole dragon sub-plot? Are they basically outcasts, who seek revenge by destroying villages?
I NEVER thought they would do the beheading to you-know-who as well! Most shows don't go there. loved it!
I cannot wait for Season 2! I'll need something once my dear Breaking Bad is gone.
After seeing Peter Dinklage, I can see why he was nominated for an Emmy/Globe. Brilliant!

The Dothraki are a group of people who live on a different continent (Essos) across the Narrow Sea from where the main action takes place (Westeros). They are similar to the Mongols from our history, known for being fearsome warriors, raping and pillaging weaker civilizations. The people of Westeros don't think much of the Dothraki as a threat as they are technologically inferior and do not have any ships to cross the sea, as they fear salt water. The silver-haired guy (Viserys) uses his sister (Danerys or "Dany") as a pawn to marry one of the Dothraki rulers (Khal Drogo) in an attempt to use them as his army to win back the Iron Throne of Westeros. The plan doesn't quite go according to plan, as you saw.
Dragons in this world did once exist (the silver-haired people rode them into battle to conquer Westeros centuries earlier) but are thought to be long-extinct. The birth of three dragons under Dany's care is potentially a really big deal and game changer.
