Garden pots and planters on the cheap?

wondering if anyone might advise on some inexpensive gardening containers.

Medium and larger pots/planters get kind of pricey and I don't care how they look really, would rather spend on building a good soil mix.

growing hot peppers, herbs, garlic, and flowers on a decent sized deck.

Garbage day ;) ... I picked several medium-large pots today while walking our dog. I go to Salvation Army and Value Village, and get the really huge ones at the closing sales of big box stores and Loblaws garden centres. (That last option doesn't help you now, sorry)

heh any tip helps, thanks. i think that is the main thing probably, finding other people's discarded pots around dumpsters and whatnot.
