Newbie
Purchases this last spring for $450 from GPS City. They always seem to have the lowest price. No issues with this retailer.
This is a very good price for one of the best handheld GPS out there.

Sorry to ask, but why would someone buy a handheld GPS instead of portable auto GPS? These GPSs are cheaper, portable, with more memory etc....

They usually have vastly different feature sets, are more rugged (can be thrown around) and most are water proof. Car GPS systems are normally neither of these things and the features are normally pretty much limited to driving on-road.

You are probably not the outdoors type. I hunt and fish lots, and use my legend HCX all the time. The automotive GPSs don't allow the portability or maps that the handhelds provide.
Has anyone compared one of the new generation handhelds to the older ones, like the legend C series?

Invaluable on a boat, or finding your way to a lake to which there are no roads or trails.
Garmin's topo maps are pretty good.

Car GPS is not as rugged nor does it have the battery life that this unit has. A car unit might have 3 to 5 hours while this has 15 hours and since it uses AA batteries you can easy change batteries.
Car GPS is focussed on roads while this unit has topographical data which is far better for hiking.
