Quebec City was Otta…
Just wanted to say I bought a A1 in Taiwan this week and just landed in Montreal. Loved the phone all week in Taiwan. Did not do any rooting of any kind.

I'm on Koodo and seeing Band 4 LTE connection at -103dbm, 3 bars, right by the Starbucks at gate 1 in the airport. I did nothing special to enable band 4.

Edit: now in plane, see band 4 even stronger at -80

Using Network Cell Info Lite app to tell you this. Signal sometimes improves to -96, 4 bars.

BTW while waiting for my flight at gate 3 I've seen it connect to bands 5 and 7 also.

Why is band 4 important in Canada?

Wouldn't that depend on the LTE network you're on?

I notice that bell/telus uses mostly band 4 in Vancouver, but almost non-existent with Rogers. Band 4 also has terrible building penetration.

My pops is on Bell LTE with a Zenfone 2 ZE551KL. He lives only 4-5 blocks from the nearest tower and usually gets only 0-1 bar inside his detached home. That's pretty terrible. I doubt the indoor signal would be this bad on Rogers 700MHz LTE network.
Band 4 is the "default" LTE band in Canada from the big three (and for Freedom going forward). It's by far the most necessary band to have on your phone for any sort of useful LTE experience. It also tends to be one of the only bands supported by phones not meant for the Canadian market (band 7 is used elsewhere in the world, so quite a few "foreign" phones support it, but band 7 is nowhere near as widely deployed as band 4).

If you are Bell/Telus+flankers Bands 2 and 5 are useful since there is some coverage on those bands, I've seen a few "foreign" phones support band 5, and a couple supporting band 2. Rogers hasn't redeployed those bands away from 3G yet so no help there.

Bands 12/13/17 are the best bands to have for LTE coverage in shakier coverage areas since it's the lowest band. Very very few foreign phones have ANY support for those bands.

Band 66 is the "special" one Freedom uses, it's an extension to band 4. I've never seen a foreign phone support it.

Install SignalCheck, it reports what LTE Band your phone is currently connected to.

Did you also apply any coupons at checkout? I bought the phone yesterday anyway and did go through ebates, but applied a coupon for $4 US. Worst case scenario I'm out about $4 CAD by using that coupon if I don't get anything from ebates.
No I didnt use any coupons, for some reason the $4 coupon wouldn't work for my order so I just gave up

This phone gonna get cheaper with 11.11 or Black Friday?

Or is a Grand Total:CA$271.20 pretty decent?

Good to hear that you enjoy the phone!

Did you order the black one? I only see EMS Express which is $18.01. So there was no duties when you receive the package?

I'm well past that - I ordered it over a week ago. The website seems to imply that no phones will be shipped until the 13th.

Sorry to hear that. Looks like all stores and mail carriers are getting busy and it will be worse because 11.11, BF, Christmas and New year....
