I am watching CBC news
They are talking about ultrasounds and gender based abortions
Interesting statistic for Southeast Asian community
For every 100 boys under 15 years of age, there are only 86 girls
My question - what do the 14 males that do not have a corresponding female in society?
Will there be a lot of single men in the future?
Do families not care that the "loser males" will not be able to find wives in their traditional social circles?
"Loser males" = the ones with lowest socio-economic status or failures / undesirables

I work in medical imaging: some hospitals in the GTA where there is a high population of those cultures will not allow the sonographers to tell you the gender. Also comes with medical-ethical-legal issues.

There's plenty of single women, it's just they are only 2 dimensional.

It's due to some South Asians having a false perception that boys are better than girls for their families.
From decades, the traditional south Asian family structure involved the male child living at home, marrying a woman who would then move into the household, and taking care of his aging parents. The female child however goes to her future husband's household.
There's also something to be said about the whole 'dowry' thing; it's outlawed but still practiced indirectly and discreetly (like the guy getting something like a new car, or house) .

Higher rate of gay men? Just suggesting that it could be a possible outcome - I don't know this to be true.

What makes you think that all males of that specific ethnicity will even want to marry in their own traditional social circles ?
I doubt every single one of them will. I'm willing to bet that this inclination to choose the male gender is more predominant in the couples who have found partners 'in their traditional social circles'.
Another issue is that many immigrants carry these ideals with them when they come here; one factor that's definitely skewing the gender ratio for the whole community.
With that said, not all South Asians are like this, it greatly varies from family to family.
Eventually, backward and idiotic ideals such as these that are present in some sections of the S.Asian community will recede; and hopefully the gender gap will close.
