[Giant Tiger] Kalorik Red Electric Meat/Food Slicer - clearance $50 +F/S (reg $99)

Was just checking out the Giant Tiger online clearance section (for those of you who aren't aware, they recently began to offer online shopping), and came across this Kalorik food slicer for $60 - reg. price is $99. Also free shipping included (applies to orders over $25). Says it's not available in store.

Edit: The price is now $50 (thanks to member dhomas)

Also right now, there's an offer when you spend $50 online, you get a $5 savings card to be used on your next in-store purchase (spend $100, get a $10 card).
More details here: http://www.gianttiger.com/category/disc ... pend_50.do

For comparison, this sells for $98.93 on Walmart.ca: http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/kalorik-red ... 0172496726

It's $89.98 on Walmart US site (4.5/5 stars from 17 reviews): http://www.walmart.com/ip/Kalorik-Meat- ... d/14089921

It's $119.99 at Home Depot: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B003FGW ... 7AVRDJQBCV

On Amazon.ca it's $98.93: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B003FGW ... 7AVRDJQBCV

Heads-up - mixed reviews @ Amazon. Nutshell - Powerful, nice finish but a little flimsy, hard to clean and hard to make thin slices.

There are many out there with this exact same design, I've owned one for a few years and I hardly use it because it's very difficult (And dangerous) to clean, and as mentioned getting a nice deli thin slice is next to impossible. I suppose it might work well with bread, but forget using it on meat unless you don't mind mediocre results.

I have a similar model as well. The other thing to consider is the area between the metal guide and the blade is pretty small. I have to slice my bacon from the side for example.

Don, have you tried putting your meat in the freezer before slicing? While true that the results are never great with thin slices, I have better luck if I get the meat close to frozen (don't actually freeze the meat though).

...And I'm not sure about the dangerous, but the machine is tricky to clean. Still think it's worth it for occasional use at 50$

The consumer models are terrible. There's a reason I bought a commercial version.
Granted... it's an order of magnitude more expensive than this but I can't beat the performance.
Easy(ish) to clean too relative to these things.

Protip: If you have a steamer, use that. It blasts away grease on these things so you can wipe it up with a paper towel.
Plus the pressure gets into nooks and crannies so you can really get it clean.

Agree 100% Back when I was a young lad I worked at a deli and used one, (I actually cut part of my thumb off at the fingernail staring at a stripper that had come in to buy a sandwich :o ) it's honestly the only way to go, I've never priced them but I imagine they'd be around $500... worth it imo.

Got one, works as expected, great deal for the money.

Edit: OOS now, probably due to the $10 IR from few days ago and the $5 coupon and free shipping.
