I think you're forced to use their crappy DRM software to play it, "Capsule".

Unfortunately only one copy of any given game can be bought with one account. Additionally, this rule also applies to Paypal accounts and credit cards; there is really no way around this rule.
No, that's not true. Only some (read: a minute amount) of GMG games require Capsule. When the game launches, you can view your CD key on their website, and then redeem on Steam.

It might be worth mentioning that this is the newly released PC "Prepare to Die Edition" that comes with a whole bunch of new areas/bosses/whatnot, and NOT just some regular old PC port of the console game. This is content that won't even be released on the console until Q4 of this year. It'll (hopefully) also avoid the rampant duping and lag problems that plagued PvP on the console version (along with a host of other technical issues), though time will tell...
Personally, I'm not too sure how well they'll be able to bring this over to the PC as they don't seem to have much experience in this area in the past. They also seem to have done this in a hurry in addition to developing the DLC for the various platforms.Last edited by Iodine; Jul 22nd, 2012 at 11:01 PM.

Things could have changed since I last checked but, it will more or less be a straight port including the extra content. It'll also be using GFWL.
In terms of the PC version, the quick answer is no, [we won't be fixing the frame rate problems]. Because we wanted to get the PC version out as soon as possible, it’s more strictly a port from the console version. We haven’t been able to step up into doing any specific optimisation for PC.SourcesFirst up, support for a keyboard and mouse will be included but minimal, with Miyazaki recommending use of a game pad and confirming that the menu and inventory screens will remain unaltered. Graphic options will be similarly sparse, which Miyazaki attributes to Namco Bandai requesting that the game be a “straight port

Those updates in the PC version will be available to the console versions? Will it be through DLC or another re-release of the game? Like a console version of the "prepare to die edition"
Edit: quick search and yeah, through DLC. x]

Actually - funny you should mention it - they announced they WEREN'T going with GFWL a -long- time ago after the fans made it clear they wouldn't support that abomination, and went with Steam instead. The reason they're even doing a PC version was also thanks in large part to fan demand. It's actually pretty cool to have a big developer that actually listens to their fans on major decisions like that. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_souls#PC_version)
As for it being not a port, I meant that it won't simply be just the game people may or may not already have on their consoles. The content on the DLC is supposedly pretty big - 10-20 hours if you haven't played the game before - so I know for sure there are fans who would jump on the chance to play it early. Also, the console had HUGE server issues that were never really fixed (getting "lagstabbed" by people standing in front of you, people spending 30_ minute to connect to a friend, etc.) . Since this runs on Steam, it should have less of those problems, at least, even if it won't fix everything. Duping should be an easy fix as well since the only reason that wasn't fixed had to do with the way saves were handled on the PS3/XBox

Hmm.. I think you may be right. I stopped following developments on this around the same time I stopped playing the game a few months ago so I just assumed when I heard it was being sold on Steam that they were dropping GFWL.
A quick search on google in the last couple months turned up totally contradictory reports about how this will work... Some are saying retail version will use GFWL, but Steam downloads will work using only Steamworks.
