is this a good deal for a gaming laptop?

$1,119.99 ASUS G74 Series G74SX-BBK8 Refurbished Notebook Intel Core i7 2670QM(2.20GHz) 17.3" 8GB Memory DDR3 1333 1TB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M

im sort of put off by the refurbish part but it seems like a good replacement for my sons desktop and with two hdd its easy to swap just one out for a ssd .
and the gtx 560m should be able to play skycraft, minerim, call of doody or what ever those kids play

)so far i have found out this bbk version was sold at bestbuy and has a nerfed 560m ( 128 bit vram vs the 192 bit vram in the 1.5 and 3 gb versions) and that the G74 had some serious keyboard driver problems when it was released.

so are there any better gaming laptops out there for $1100?

Asus K53Sv... this has a 540m ... I have the K52Jr, the model before this one, with a Radeon 5470 card and i3 350m, and I play GTA IV on the highest settings with a bit of lag, but on Med-High I get ~40 FPS.

I THINK it has the MXM video card module, which means it's simple to replace by buying one on EBAY.

You can either have good gaming, or a laptop, not both in one device. Just a suggestion, you could get a desktop with better specs than the gaming laptop and a laptop (for portable computing) for less than the price of one of those "gaming" laptops.

If you're 100% sure you want one though, just be prepared to be lugging around a heavy, large laptop around.

Not sure why I didn't suggest that before, but I definitely agree with the above poster. Unless you need gaming on the go, building a desktop and buying a laptop would be the best option.
