A good Wireless Router for Rogers Internet

What is the best brand of wireless router for Rogers Internet. Currently we are running a D-Link DIR-615 but recently it is behaving oddly with frequent slowdowns, these slowdowns are not just a little bit it goes from 10 Mb/s to 0.89 Mb/s download and this is unacceptable. I also know it is the router as when connected directly these slowdowns are not present. What is the best brand to go off of?

What else could it be it cycles in slowdowns and its not just the one computer that has it. Our wireless computers and consols get these as well.

Chances are it's not the router.

If it's a D-LINK IT IS the router. I've seen those fail more frequently than any other brand of routers.

OP can try hardwire connection to router, and see if the speed returns to normal.

Very odd. All of the routers that have failed for me were Linksys. After the 3rd one I stopped buying Linksys and stuck with D-Link as it has been very reliable for me. I currently have the D-Link DIR-655 and have no speed issues. I can download over 1MB/s on my laptop through wireless. I also have the DIR-615 and never had issues with it.

Since it's OK if you connected directly, the wirelss part of your router is not functioning properly.

If, when speed drops, you recycles the power and wireless goes to normal, your wirless router is indeed has a problem.

Try updating it with the current firmware. My DIR655 seems to work after updating to v.1.31. And yes all Dlink or Linksys have problems.

I recently wiped it and upgraded to the latest version availible. Unfortunatly this problem is still persistant. The router is over a year old as well. What is the best brand to get?

Did you try creating a new wireless profile?
Try changing the encryption to a lower one. But with password protected.

See if there is any difference.

Usually if you start to get slowdowns and you have a router, neighbors could be leeching off your network.

it's best to protect your network with a WPA encryption rather than WEP which i read can be cracked really easily.

Thats strange, i had the WRT54G Linksys router for about 2 years now and i haven't had a problem. I have 2 Desktops, 2 laptops, Macbook, PS3, 360, Wii, and PSP connected it and they run great, with no slowdowns.

I had a D-Link before and it was really complicated and kept losing signal so i exchanged it for the Linksys and have used it ever since.

If your wireless network is on a channel similar to a neighbors it could explain the slowdown.

Try running netstumbler and see if someone is using an overlapping channel.

If thats the case try to minimize the overlap -> Wireless channels

Its already on the lowest possible setting with out it being open. I'll take a look at some Linksys routers. These things never seem to last very long for me.

Try checking out the router ratings of various brands. They have some nice pretty selections over there.
