I have the GPS 10 from Garmin. It works pretty well when I used it last summer driving from Winnipeg to Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone Park and back to Winnipeg. It did the job and the map information was accurate. It has turn-by-turn directions and has both metric and imperial units.
I bought my unit online from a store in Manitoba called Prairie Geomatics (even though I live in Ontario). The Bluetooth GPS unit itself is waterproof and has a magnet at the bottom so if you have a windshield that the GPS signal can't pass through, you can just leave it on top of your car's roof and get the signal that way.
Speaking from experience, you should also get a mount for your PDA so you can stick it on your windshield and a car charger for your PDA as the battery will usually drain when you are using Bluetooth.

I can't remember for sure. I think I bought it for $285. It's selling for $274 now.
The turn-by-turn depends on the software installed on the PocketPC. It's included in the package when you buy the "Deluxe" version, as that's the one that includes the maps. The maps include all of North America, not just the US, as we Canadians are sometimes forgotten by GPS manufacturers.
