I definitely failed OAC Calculous...but then again I never went to class, didn't crack open the textbook at all until just before the final exam and never did any homework...
I still managed to pull off a 60% before the final though...so that should give you an idea on how difficult the material was. It was just the final that killed me which caused me to fail...
Meh, knew I wasn't going to go for a math university program anyway...hazaa for Law![]()

It's really an easy class, however it all depends on your teacher
My calc teacher was literally the teacher from hell
I went into the exam with an 83% and finishing with a 75% :S
Turns out I got a 49% on the exam
However, next year rolls around and I take Calc at the U
I'm in the honors calc class and I end up with a final mark of 97.5%, top of my calc class
I personally don't think calc is so hard, it's just a few concepts that you have to grasp, however your teacher can make it or break it for you

Grade 12 calc was fairly easy for me...it was all limits, derivatives and depending on which school you went to I know people who did anti-derivatives (integrals) and some who didnt.
If you learn the tricks for derivatives ahead of time, then the section where you are forced to use the definition becomes easy since you can check your answer in your head in like 2 seconds...other than that just pay attention and get your practice in and you should be fine!

don't stress about calculus... i did VERY poorly grade 11 math (my teacher was a psycho..) and i got a 96 advanced placement calculus
=P try hard to not fall behind and if you don't get something ask right away because the concepts do tend to build on each other

There a a big difference between the two courses. Simply functions barely scratches the surface of Calculus. I took AP Calculus which is an incredible prep course. Compared to the little they did in the normal course, and even now that they changed it to just functions, what you do now is barely anything of what you'll do in Calculus I at university.

I had a different experience, I took GR 11 Functions Math and finished off with 96% but Calculus killed me in gr 12, perhaps I didn't catchup as it goes pretty fast. The harder parts were sketching the graph (after finding the slopes and y intercepts) and related rates. We touched on trig as well ( u may not) which even made it harder. Also, the thing that pulls down the marks is TIPS (thinking inquiry problem solving) it was 25% of our marks, and hardly anyone passes them (its like one after every test u get to do it with another person: who currently has the same class avg as u).
Good Luck!

I'm going to be doing my 12 calc class on a tablet PC.
No Paper FTW... I hope.

Grade 12 Calculus was easy, I think I had a 90 in it (almost 4 years ago). I found the other course (Discrete mathematics?) a lot harder. I think I squeezed a 75 or something out of that course.
But I found university calculus a lot more difficult because grade 12 didn't cover a lot of what is done in Uni, especially integrals.

I always wondered what was so hard about Calculus. Even if you don't know what the hell the question is talking about you can get like half the marks for just taking the derivative and finding a max/min -___-. It's kinda funny though.. I guess it's one of those things you look back at and wonder what was so hard about it. Meh.
I ended up getting higher in Algeo than Calculus though, I'm another one of those weirdos.

From my OAC years. I found OAC Calc to be the easiest of the 3. 2nd came Finite, then Algeo. All 3 I was in the enriched class. I went to Earl Haig for high school, back when it was still more reputable.
Once you get the idea what derivatives are all about and how you can use them, it will be a piece of cake. I understood exactly what it meant, and only studied a day before each test and exam. Ended up with a 97%.
As for the other 2, they werent as good. Another thing is that essentially, there is only 2 topics in calculus. Derivatives and Integrals. Finite and Algeo had so many independant topics. I guess that's what's hard about it.
So get a friend who can explain WELL what the meaning of a derivative is. Once you know that, calculus is really easy. I tutored a lot of my friends during that OAC year, even the ones who were bad at math came away with 80's in OAC Calc.
