It's funny, you can tell exactly where the subway lines are by looking at the developed areas.

Yeah, to a point -- in the 5th photo it's not so obvious (based on surrounding development) that there is a subway line running down the middle of that photo.

For me, what's most notable is the land area taken up by highway interchanges. That same 5th photo shows that the total footprint of the 401-Allen Rd interchange is about the same size as Yorkdale Mall and all of its parking lots!

Thats what im thinking. Vancouver ariel photos make vancouver look 4 times bigger than TO, but in reality, its the other way around. I think this is because ariel photos of Vancouver are much lower. The plane looks really really high up in these TO photos, making it look less metropolitiany.

That, and the mountains around Vancouver give its aerial photos a sense of scale. Toronto has no prominent geographical features aside from the lakeshore, so it's hard to get a sense of distances.

That's what a lot of people find hard to believe but it's a really green city given it's size.

Obviously a place like Saskatoon will have more since it's smaller.
