Great Barrier Reef in March

Hi , just wondering if anyone has been to the Great Barrier Reef around March? Wife and I are making a trip to NZ for one month with a 3 day stop in Sydney, just wondering if anyone can provide some insight as to whether it is worth taking a few days off the NZ trip to go see the Great Barrier Reef in March. Thanks.

To dive, or just to take a boat ride to see or snorkel?

The Great Barrier Reef covers a large area. It is about 2000 kms long.
To see it you will have to go north to at least Brisbane but further north will be better. March is the start of Fall in Australia. The further north the closer to the equator and it will be warmer.
You will need to take a tour to get to the designated spots as these spots re a ways off shore and will be protected from sharks. I think Cairns would be your best choice for getting to the reefs..
