Great Home Lab / VM > Dell R710 Dual X5570 (3.33Ghz 8 Cores/16 Threads) 48 GB Ram, 500 GB HD, Dual Power Supplies, $379

Great Home Lab or Virtualization Server (ESXi or Hyper-V or Docker, Linux, Windows, etc...)

I would say the Dell R710 is the most compatible / supported Server available. i.e. it is supported by just about every OS (including Windows Server OS's 2003 to 2016 and Windows Desktop OS's) out there!

Dell R710 with a 8 x 2.5" drive bay chassis configuration:
Dual Xeon X5570 cpu's (these are Quad Core with Hyper Threading and have a base speed of 2.93 Ghz and Turbo speed of 3.33 Ghz so you get 8 cores / 16 threads total !)
48 GB of Ram (with 6 x 8GB 1333 Mhz ECC Rdimms) with 12 empty dimm slots remaining.... you could expand the memory to to 144 GB by just adding 12 more 8GB sticks
500 GB Hitachi Z7K500 7.2K Sata Hard Drive
DVD Rom Drive
PERC6i Raid Controller and battery backup
iDrac Enterprise card
Dual 570 Watt Power Supplies
Exapansion slost: 2xPCI-E x8 and 2xPCI-E x4 slots
Onboard Ports
- 5 x USB (2 front, 2 back, 1 Interior ),
- 1xSerial (back),
- 2xVGA (1 front, 1 back)
- 4 x 1 GB Ethernet Ports (back)
All Firmware updated to the most recent & Passed Self Diagnostic tests. Server is ready to go!
-----------------------------------------------
all for $379

I can adjust Hard Drive and Memory to suit your needs (and possibly some other options, just ask).

This Server is very quiet and I run one just a few feet from me without issue (the fans are a little loud for a few seconds at startup but quiet right down quickly).

What is NOT included: Ears, Rails, Bezel, Drive Caddys (well except for the ones accompanying the included hard drive(s) but the remaining drive bays will contain drive blanks), power cord, keyboard, monitor, operating system. These options and others are available but are extra.

Rack it up special -> Add Ears + Rails + Bezel for only $75

I can offer assistance to help you get going on this if you feel intimidated by jumping into the Enterprise Hardware pool... I have worked with these quite a bit and have identified many links and resources etc.

Local pickup in London where i live but I travel to Toronto on a regular basis so pickup is available there as well (next Toronto pickup date Saturday June 10th )

Shipping is an option but this is heavy (I did one to BC for $75) so closer would be less

Would you consider a trade + $100 from my end for my HP Elite 8300 SFF (i5-3rd gen, 8GB RAM, 600GB HD, supports 3 displays)

It's what i'm currently using for my lab lol
