Be aware that Nikon US warranty isn't usable in Canada, and Canada not usable in US.
The D50 can be found for 799$ brand new in Canada, and the D70s for about 1,249

Great time to buy a used D70, D70s or D100
Nikon has started shipping the new D200 worldwide and there has already been a spike in available used D70s and D100s. For anyone interested in picking up the D70, D70s or D100, they can be had now for cheap. Many are less than a year old as well.
As an example, check out the following link that in the past 24hrs had a few listed for amazing prices. Yes, most of the sellers are in the US, but if you're creative and resourceful, you can get them for a significant discount, saving hundreds of dollars off the new prices here in Canada.

Dec 17th, 2005 09:31 AM #5Where in the world do you get this idea? This simply isn't true. A legal US camera will be serviced by Nikon Canada and vice versa. Grey market cameras, on the other hand, have a dubious warranty status, but this isn't the same as what you're talking about.

Dec 17th, 2005 10:30 AM #8Well, you might get the idea if you've ever actually tried to get a U.S.-purchased camera fixed at a Nikon Canada Service Centre. Nikon Canada will not fix any camera that's been purchased in the U.S., without having you pay out-of-warranty fees first... This applies even if you're within the warranty period and made the purchase from an authorized U.S. dealer.

How much will shipping/tax/brokerage fees cost me if it's shipped from the US?
Those prices are awesome, but I've been hit with ridiculous brokerage fees before

Dec 17th, 2005 10:39 AM #11I was looking at the D200 but that could be a deal killer for me. Way more expensive in Canada, and I found their advertising more than a bit deceiptive as to the warranty Nikon Canada is offering. You'd think looking at their website you'd get a two year warranty on that camera, but if you run a search, you find its really one year. Time to find a new hobby.

I had to wait near 1 month before Nikon Canada actually made the recall too.
Read the warranty paper of your Nikon before saying anything, and do some search too, it won't hurt.Last edited by vric; Dec 17th, 2005 at 02:23 PM.

Another thing to note is the Canadian waranty is NON TRANSFERABLE.... If you buy a used one no matter how long is left on the waranty Nikon Canada will not waranty it.
Also the question about waranty... Nikon Canada chooses how long they want to waranty it. So if you notice many Nikon products purchase legitamately in canada have stickers on the box stating the lenght of the "Canadian" waranty. My D70 has a 2 year sticker on it, and my lenses got 5 year stickers.
Edit: OH btw did you guys know about the D70 D50 D70S battery recall? Supposedly some short out and cause fires. I had one listed, and got a High Capacity replacement for free.Last edited by Art; Dec 17th, 2005 at 02:30 PM.
