Nature Conservancy of Canada - http://www.natureconservancy.ca. This is a charity that understands how the world works. Instead of wasting time trying to lobby government to make changes to conserve our wildlife (which we all know is a waste of time), they take donations and endowments to just outright buy the land they want conserved. Once the own it no one can develop it. They have saved many wildlife refuges in urban areas from development by doing this.

Green charities
I have been giving to WWF for years, but I'm wondering what other reputable green charities you guys would recommend. Something that has a focus on conservation and makes good use of funds. Any suggestions?

Environmental Defence
I agree, the Nature Conservancy is a great one. So is Environmental Defence; a non-profit organization which focuses on the link between health, environment, and laws governing the public trust in those matters.

Sierra Club is good, too. They tend to focus more on legal fights, which is also important.

There are a lot of charities that help people!
say you donate to a charity that helps feed/educate/treat someone so that they become better. well then there will be less medical equipment manufactured and used and wasted labour in the end. i.e. that person gets worse due to lack of food/education/treatment and goes to a hospital, takes up a bed, someone drives to work at that hospital to treat them (instead of driving to treat someone else) and then another shift has to be added to treat the others... trickle down effect of helping PEOPLE is useful. maybe look into that.
I am sure you would be the first in line looking for help if something significantly ___________ happened to you.
