Green walnuts

It's green walnut season, any idea where I can get some around Toronto?

I've never heard of this.

I don't even know if we have the right kind of walnut around here? There's 4 black walnut trees outside of my place in SWO, but the nuts are strong tasting and have rock for a shell vs. English/Persian walnut. They are also extremely tall, and go straight up without branches, so I am not sure how you would get at the nuts.

You can just grab them off the ground, a lot of them will just fall (had one of these trees in my backyard growing up). The walnut inside is very tasty in this state as well but be careful if you try them, the outer green part will stain heavily (fingers, clothes, etc).

That is a definitely a Persian/English walnut which is cultivated and harder to find. People don't like to grow them because they are a damn messy tree, especially with the staining fruits.

The kind we have is the wild growing ones and they don't shed anything until the nuts are ready in fall. Sorry for the ugly pic but they look like this:
