This is one of the best games of the year. The gameplay is trash, the story is trite nonsense, but the themes it presents and the meta-game you actually play between the lines is genre-breaking. I wrote a small review blurb on my Steam profile.

"I went into this with no expectations. It initially began as a run-of-the-mill boring shooter, but as the story picked up, I became more engrossed in the characters and plot. About halfway through it really picks up and by the ending I had witnessed a story and narrative seldom seen in modern videogames. Spec Ops handles a lot of things well, particularly the presence of post traumatic stress disorder and general insanity; additionally, it introduces some "Eternal Darkness"-esque moments that really question what is actually happening in the game, and what is just part of Walker's imagination. Keeping that in mind, the gameplay is generic and unremarkable. Don't play this for the gameplay, play it for the music, characters, atmosphere, and narrative. It won't disappoint."

Can anyone comment on the PC port? I may pull the trigger.

PC Port is good, works well with the 360 controller, and I suggest enabling AA in your video card controls (Catalyst + the nVidia equivalent). There was no effect on the framerate for me and it looked much better. The only problem with the PC port was low framerate when booting the game a second time (got worse after each time you started the game) but it has probably been fixed and if it hasn't, there's a tweak that takes 3 seconds to solve the problem.

As for the game, I'm obsessed with it. By far my favorite gaming experience this year and it really is a game that I'll remember for a long time. Like I've said a hundred times already here and on other boards, just make sure that you give the game at least a 2 hours chance before saying that it sucks. The gameplay isn't stellar and it starts as an average shooter but once the story picks up...man...this game is AWESOME and you'll understand and appreciate the slow start. But yeah, be sure to have a couple hours available before starting it, and ideally beat the game in a short period as some story aspects can be confusing. Only takes about 6-8 hours anyway. Oh and read/listen to the collectibles, they help a lot explaining some parts of the story and the motivation of the characters.
