GTA 2% Milk Bag up to $4.55 - 28 cents increase

Just realised that most of the Grocery monopoly retailers in the GTA have jacked up the cost of a 2% bag of milk up to $4.55 from $4.27

Is this to emphasize the NAFTA protectionism on our dairy?

Don’t think it’s the grocery stores doing this alone considering the increase has been consistent across all stores.

I guess $4.55 for 4l 2% milk. That's "cheap".
Meh! In Qc, it has gone up to $6.58 from $6.39 for pasteurised 4l 2% milk two weeks ago.

Noticed the price increase last weekend, Sept.8, when I bought from No Frills.

Confirmed $4.47 at Walmart.

I went yesterday to my Local Costco and regular 2% milk was still $4.25. Maybe price change soon?

The price of 4 Litres (bags) of milk in Ontario has pretty much been standardized at $ 4.27-ish for quite some time / years
(The lowest price for that amount of milk in Canada)

The increase is pretty much 5% ... which IMO is just to keep up with annual costs / inflation

BTW ... 85% of Milk in Canada is produced in Quebec & Ontario
Which is part of the reason the marketing boards exist.
We still have to get milk out across our vast country to everyone else

The price should come down after Trump/Trudeau agree on a new NAFTA.

Back when milk was $3.97, I know Costco has had some seasonal fluctuations in dairy pricing. I took a quick look at milk production data from Stats Can (Milk production and utilization, Table 32-10-0113-01) and it looks like production amounts are the lowest in February, September & November. I'm just guessing if it might be a supply fluctuation affecting cost.

I noticed this as well recently at No Frills....seems ill timed when the US is already saying we are overpaying for milk and then CDN milk gets a price increase on top

Yep, they pull that stunt once or twice a year in the past. $3.97, 4.27, $4.55. They are sneaky and quiet about it all the time.

There's a reason why Europe and Asia countries banned American milk.
1. Hormones
2. rBGH Hormone
3. Lots of antibiotic used in american cows because they get sick since american farms have THOUSANDS of cows and owned by large corporations.

Do you really want a large corporation who don't give a shit to make your milk? Or a family farm that takes pride in making milk? If American opens up the market they'll just flood the market and make the small folks out of business, and than milk price will slowly increase again. Look at the price of gas TODAY. When oil was $100 a barrel 3+ years ago, gas was $1.40/L. Gas is $1.30L and gas is $60 a barrel. They make your immune to a high price, blame it on "Something" and than slowly increase it again back to what you're used to getting it up the butt.

I bought it at $4.47 during this weekend from Shoppers, but with 20X points events, save about $1.34 (in PC points). I believe Canada will not open the Milk market to US.
