Let's put it this way, to answer your question OP: Reputation wise, Guelph is better than Ryerson. But the choice is yours: stay back a year in highschool or upgrade your mark.

Guelph is really only better than Ryerson in the sense that every university is better than Ryerson.

Problem is, we're not talking about your wife's university/program
We're talking Guelph vs. Ryerson CS. Not that difficult.
If you don't actually know the specifics of the programs offered at each and aren't willing to do a bit of research on your own, stop blowing smoke._______________
So many contests, so little time...

If you live in Toronto go to Ryerson they have co-op and a low tuition compared to other local universities. From what i've heard from friends there is math and physics courses but they aren't very hard compared to the engineering ones, so you should do great on those since you said you are more of a math/science person.

Why not Waterloo? They have a great co-op and Computer Scienxe program.
Or, you can just go to either of those and apply to another school as an university transfer student to say, Waterloo, U of T, Queens, Western, UBC, etc...
Better than redoing high school anyhow since you don't lose an entire year of time. Your courses would transfer over for credit.
I got into my current university by transferring from another. I did one year there, and one year here, so far.Last edited by forthewinwin; Jul 21st, 2012 at 09:10 PM.

Look, grasshopper, what he said is correct. You can't go by the name of the degree, and the curricula are mostly the same from school to school. You got yer algorithms, yer computer architecture, yer databases, etc.
Guelph and Ryerson would not be on most companies' go-to lists for CS grads, and right now there are more grads than jobs.

I wasn't going by the name of the degree. I am fully aware that there are core courses that will be common to the CS program of nearly every university. That doesn't change the fact that apart from these courses, certain universities require additional math/physics courses as well. Ryerson is one of them, Guelph is not. End of story.

I would say go to Rye for CS since they offer coop. I am currently doing CS at Rye and am on a 16month coop term. Out in the field, your employer doesn't care about your school but only about your skills. If you are dedicated and know your ***** , you will get a job no matter what.

Guelph has co op for their computer science program. The question OP wants answered is which school is more reputable. Guelph hands down. Ryerson's overall reputation is not really that great- if your major concern is reputation OP.
Sure co op can be a plus to future employers but if you do not fall in their "excellent" employee book they wont give you a good reference. I know some companies that give references to top performing employees and its difficult. In fact, it can hinder your chances of getting future jobs after graduation. Theres advantages and disadvantages.

Imflying12 has a thing against ryerson so don't take his suggestions very seriously. I would think both schools are about the same...at my workplace, we have several Ryerson grads who did their Bsc in Computer Science.
Honestly, if you love what you do and you're determined to get yourself out there...your degree doesn't matter. Both have co-op which IMO is invaluable.

Well I went with Guelph in case you guys are wondering. I chose Math as my area of application; it's basically a subject in which you choose to minor in. It was either that or Physics.
