Guidance Counselor Office

Please share your guidance counselor office experience:

Elementary School - non-existent
High School - Annual Basis, not more than 5 minutes
University - Once only, near graduation

Your more detailed and interesting story may get my short and boring story.

Depends on the school and the student--you have to make the effort. I never did. In HS, I think I went to guidance once or twice.

My wife heads a guidance department. They are jammed all the time meeting with students and/or parents. And she knows all 300-400 or so of her assigned students.
And yes, to meet with parents, they are often the last ones to leave (clubs/sports notwithstanding).

And they deal with everything from courses, grades, university/college programs/applications/scholarships, family problems, addictions (gaming more so than drugs), suicides....you name it.

Impossible to get an appointment. Only there for the paycheck.

Mine was a beloved football coach. Had to do the Guidance Counsellor gig, which he wasn't very good at.
