the way they have GH games charted now is ridiculous. RB all the way. Guitar is just as challenging without being stupid hard for no reason. And having DLC every week...a huge bonus over having to buy a new game every 4 weeks that Activision wants to screw you for.

Guitar Only: GH or RB
New to the whole PS3 thing - wanna unleash my inner guitar God. I doubt I'll ever be into the whole band thing - just guitar. Is RB still worth it for guitar only from a software, song selection point of view or should I stick with the GH series?

Most prefer the Guitar Hero guitar, but most prefer the song list and overall presentation of Rock Band. I plan on buying Guitar Hero: World Tour for $79.99, which includes the game and guitar, and just buying the Rock Band games separately. You might also be able to find a Guitar Hero 3 package for cheap ($29.99-$39.99) and you'd be set for a guitar.

Buy the GHWT guitar. It works with both GHWT and RB2, whereas if you get RB2, it won't work with GHWT.

RB is great with just guitar, but on World Tour mode in RB2 there are parts that you need some of the other instruments to beat a certain town. But just quickplay is great on RB with just a guitar. And like someone earlier said the charting on GH games now are ridiculous.

For me, someone who sucks at guitar, I find GH much more enjoyable. I don't think I'll ever get used to using all 5 buttons which is why I stick with medium (Hard goes to 5 buttons, Medium only uses 4), and I find medium in GH more challenging/fun whereas RB is too easy and boring. If you're good at it and play expert/hard, I'm sure RB is just as good if not better.
I pretty much only play drums and I find RB2 better in this area (only play Hard/Expert) plus they offer much more song selection/DLC.

When a music game is involved, the answer is always Rock Band.

One last question if I may...
Can I use a RB1 guitar with RB2. If so, are there any drawbacks? Are there newer features on the guitars that came bundled with RB2?
Thanks in advance for your answers...

You can use your RB 1 guitar with RB 2 not sure it's different then the RB 2 guitar other then being wired as to being wireless though.
Taken from a blog.
I'm sure the same could be said for the PS3 version. The Guitar: The differences between the wireless Rock Band 2 guitar and the wired Rock Band 1 guitar are minor. The most obvious one is the fact that you can now, as Bruce Dickinson advises, "really explore the studio space" without yanking your Xbox 360 onto the floor. It may sound like nothing special, but it's one of those things—like getting waxed—that you have to experience for yourself to understand.
The strummer is almost exactly the same as the first, but has a slight bit more firmness to it. Nowhere near as clacky like Guitar Hero's, but Rock Band fans like it that way. The fret buttons are also exactly the same, with five up on top and five down below for solos. These are also slightly modified to feel better to the touch.
The exterior design is modeled after the Fender Stratocaster, with a faux wood finish look (the guitar is still plastic) that's nicer than Rock Band 1's. It's also slightly shorter by a couple inches. It's not an amazing upgrade, but definitely improves on the old version in every way. All these minuscule changes made our playing better. Not incredibly better, but just enough that we notice a difference. Still not good enough to pass Green Grass and High Tides on expert though.Last edited by urs74; Nov 16th, 2009 at 07:01 PM.
