Gym is trying to scam me for Physiotherapy session
I recently bought a 3 month membership off a deal site for a gym close to home. I went in, signed up and was told that before I would be given my member card I will be required to come in for a "fitness assessment"
The fitness assessment is essentially just them putting you through a workout routine and pushing you to the limit in order for them to later sit you down and tell you that you are out of shape and require a personal trainer. I told them that a trainer is way too expensive and out of my budget. After some back and forth the guy tells me how about he signs me up for a trial session with a trainer and maybe I will change my mind then. He explicitly told me it won't cost me anything to have this trial session so I agree to it. Before we book a date I was asked if I have any health or physical issues they should be aware of, I inform him that I have been seeing a chiropractor for my back because I injured it over the summer time. He says okay, we book a date for the trial session and that was it.
A few days later I get a call from the gym telling me that they need to book me a physiotherapist appointment before I can do the trial session. I go in to see the physio, he does a basic evaluation and sends me off.
Today, about a month after the physio appointment I get a call from them telling me that I need to provide them my insurance information so they can bill for the physio appointment. At this point I'm thinking what's going on? I was never told that the Physio appointment was going to cost anything and if it did I wouldn't have agreed to it. The guy on the phone tells me that the appointment needs to either be paid by myself or my insurance and that I need to resolve this no matter what.
Are they allowed to do this? I am not going to just hand my insurance card over so they can charge whatever it is they want to it. I was never explicitly told that I will be charged for any of these services. Right now I'm thinking of just ignoring this and continuing with my membership until it expires in another 2 months. If they try to harass me for the Physio cost I will just stop showing up since they don't have any of my banking or credit information.
Anybody have any thoughts on this?_______________

Phyisios don't work for free... It's hard to get a sense of the situation without having been there, but I've never seen a physio offer a free evaluation. That said, they definitely should have mentioned the cost of it. I think they figure that since insurance covers it for most people, they won't worry about it too much. Once they found out you can't afford a trainer they wanted to get money out of you any way they could.

Well from what has been written, you should not pay them a red cent.
And frankly I'd find another place to work out, where the staff at least treat you with a reasonable amount of respect rather than trying to just squeeze cash out of you any way they can.
Please could you let us know which gym this is? PM if you prefer. Thanks._______________

I think the OP is talking about Wynn fitness. There was a wagjag deal for it a couple weeks back, and the previous Wynn wagjag thread had people complain about a "personal assessment" and personal trainer sessions being forced onto you.
OP was your physiotherapy session in the gym or did they send you somewhere else to do it? If it was outside of the gym then you probably won't get hassled too much while going to the gym. Also did you sign anything before/after physio?
You shouldn't have signed up for that trial session. Search RFD for wynn fitness..other users have signed up for something similar and been burned by it afterwards.

PM'd you
The Physio session was at the gym and I did not sign anything before or after. Usually when I'm given something to sign I scrutinize every single word but this time around I was never given anything so sign so they really have nothing to come after me with_______________

Signed up at a small town gym, owner walked me around. Took about 3 minutes. Gives everyone a key, workout whenever you want.
Twenty years ago living in Calgary, I remember the ******** that the franchise gyms would pull. Try a private smaller gym if available.

sounds like Extreme fitness.
Hope you havnt given the gym your credit card information. If you havnt, Good. No need to show up at any of the sessions then.
@ extreme fitness They ask for CC info to "Lock" in a deal for after the groupbuy deals and sign you up for a "fitness evaluation" where they give you the membership card. I didnt give them my CC info so said F*** that and kept rescheduling and not showing up to my evaluation till my membership expired after 2 months.

By far the best gym I've been a member of was a small independent gym. Not only was there no sales pitch and no scams, I preferred the smaller less corporate atmosphere of the place. The main weight room had a wooden floor, and a stereo in the corner where you could play your own CDs if you wanted. Personal training was available but nobody ever approached people trying to "sell, sell, sell" like the chain gyms do now. On top of all this, it was way cheaper than LA Fitness and other such dross. Then I moved to a different city and haven't found a replacement. So I just work out at home instead._______________

Usually physio is never free but since they asked you to go and they did not tell you a cost would be involved or try to charge you immediately following the appointment which is also how it usually works with physio or chiro then I would stick to your guns. If they keep pushing the issue ask them to show you the contract you signed stating that the appointment at the gym required an additional payment. ( I read there you did not sign anything so you should be fine).
