Had it in new york. Got the platter with the rice and chicken and salad for $7. It was great for the price and half the container was chicken.

White sauce was good but every street vendor had a white sauce. Hot sauce was decently hot.

I only waited a few minutes in line at the location I went.
as opposed to lettuce and rice we get in toronto shwarma places.
I had it a couple of years ago from osmow's in mississauga. IT was literally a rice container with some shreds of meat on top. They charged around $10 and are world famous for their meat shwarma.
I never had shwarma dinner since then. It is a total total rip off and people are so used to it now that they dont even complain.

I recently made the replica version of this recipe on serious eats and it was just as good, maybe even better than the street version in NYC. But of course it isn't as good as the street version since taste is so closely linked to memories and other experiences.

I am surprised so many people are quoting lazeez shwarma. I checked them up online and looks like they only have 2 locations in an unremarkable mississauga neighbourhood. yet, from this thread they appear to be so popular.
I dont think anyone from toronto or east would drive to get a shwarma.

this halal guys place is guaranteed to be 3 times more pricy than their original cart and probably would not even taste the same. Thats what you call the canadian effect.
lazeez is opening a location at harbord & bathurst

It wasn't good in NYC. I don't see it being good here, competing with all the other shawarma places.

You probably went to one of the knock-off locations.
Look at the line up on 6th/53rd in New York - if it wasn't good there wouldn't be a lineup at almost any time of day.

That was the one we went to and there was no line up.

Only thing in wondering is pricing.... Are they going the same route as Five Guys burgers ie much much higher.

Confirmed - prices will be higher.

Here's what the article quotes vs prices in NYC. I used their online order pricing since I'm not sure what their current food stand prices are.

Hummus with pita $3.49 (vs $2.99 in NYC)
Falafel 4 pieces $2.99 (vs $2.00 in NYC)
Beef gyro sandwich $6.99. (vs $5.49 in NYC)
Regular-sized combo platter of beef and chicken served with rice, salad, hot sauce and white sauce $12.49 (vs $7.99 in NYC)

Considering the current exchange rate, some of those prices are lower than in the U.S.
