HK has been building in China for quite some time, like even before the days where "everything is made in China" like we have today. Their plant in China must be quite a bit higher QC than the typical made in China garbaaage that floods the rest of our market these days.
Though I think some of the AVRx45s had issues, for being made in China, most HK stuff is actually pretty good.

This is a sweet receiver....even though at FS's $999 its overpriced.
I was down to either this one or the Denon AVR790 and went with the Denon, only cause I got it new on Ebay for $469 plus tax.
And I used to work at a BB.....the "manage'rs computer", first off there is no such thing, and second it would show the same cost.
But if they don't price match they are not honoring the policy!!!! As long as item is available locally and in stock. Online retailers are a bit different, I think technically they can add the cost of next day shipping before the price match.

You've inspected that plant , have you? Common.
If they were there before others I'd conclude their QC standards might be less than the newcomers, like Denon and Marantz ( 'garbaaage' )- I would think the newcomers in China have learned from the earlier builders mistakes and have the best, most current technology in their factories.Last edited by Kfox; Mar 12th, 2010 at 08:58 PM.

No I haven't, where did I say that?
What I said was they've been building in China for quite some time now and though they've had a few models with problems, most have been good.
And no newer-start-up made in China stuff is typically worse. Because there manufacturers are only building there to make things cheaper and cheaper and the result is garbage that goes in the garbage can in a couple years and you end up buying a new one because it's cheaper than repairing the old one. And where does all the junk go from that stuff that breaks and has to be replaced in a couple years? Why the landfills of course!
Here's a good story: http://www.storyofstuff.com/
It's not about learning lessons in quality it's about learning lessons in cheapness and how to make things cheaper with no regard for anything else but the bottom line. Who cares about environmental destrution, when you can make more $$$ making crap in China?
Now almost everything is made in that hell hole and the vast majority of it is garbage because it is made as cheaply and shoddily as possible. Back in the 80s when you bought a microwave, well the same microwave is working today. And it wasn't made in China. Now you buy one (which is invariably made in China) and you're lucky if it lasts the warranty period. And I don't just mean microwaves I mean virtually everything.
My point is that things can be made well in China, however the vast majority of it is not and that majority is garbage.
