so if i understand your story correctly, you wanted to drive 20-25 minutes to save a few dollars on a $10 item? how much is gas now? if anything the seller did you a favour, unless you're one of those ppl that would rather spend $2 so they can save $1.

has this ever happened? (rant)
just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone. so here's a situation that i encountered on an item i was interested in purchasing on another board...
there as an item posted on the BST over there that was an item, that said "this item" for $xx.xx, local pickup only. so basically, the first to pm me and say they can pick it up would get it. now, i pm'ed him he asked if i could meet up with him at a location to do the exchange. i asked where was local for him and i could try to meet up with him.
now, he said the deal would have to be local to him and i would have to travel to his area and asked when i was free. now, his location is roughly a 20-25 minute drive for me which is fine and i don't mind. so i pm'ed him back that i would take the item and meet him at the location that was geographically in his favour, but i said i would not be able to meet him that day but the next. however, i work downtown and would be around 630 before i got back uptown and it would be around 8pm before i could meet him - so i explained to him that i could meet him, but i would have to get off work and travel up to his location and suggested that we could meet at the shopping mall near his house.
now i know he's read the pm's b/c i've received confirmation on it. but he hasn't responded to any of them. however on the thread for the item, the status has been changed to SOLD - which is odd as he had agreed to sell it to me.
i know i didn't lose out on anything and it would cost me no more than $10 MORE to get the exact item retail, but i figured i could save a few bucks and help a fellow board member out on there. the guy has a perfect trader rating and everything, but lacks etiquette. if he had pulled what i consider a "jerk" move, then man up to it - don't ignore me.

Well, stuff like that happens. Some people just go by the first-to-pay approach, and don't care about trading practices. It doesn't happen much though, as most people I've dealt with have kept their commitments.
However, I am most aggravated by people who don't give me notice and do not respond to PMs!!! Is it that hard to send a simple reply???!!!_______________

Has happened to me, even go as far as scheduling a meet and they never showing up, wasting my time and gas money all because they were too lazy to call and say you know what i changed my mind..
People sometimes can be really stupid when it comes to buy/sell and they dont think beyond the screen in front of them but i guess thats the cost of doing business with strangers hehe_______________

This thread reminded me of a previous experience I had in 2003 (on HOFO). Incidentally, the user is on RFD and backed out on an offer that he made recently.
Here's the feedback rating that I left (in 2003, when I was a 'young lad').

Oh well, it wasn't a good deal anyways, it's not worth your time. If it's a super good deal, I sometimes offer a bit more than the asking price and say I need it quick. That usually gets you priority
, though I hope it doesn't cause situations like this for other buyers of the item

I had a guy that wanted to buy something off me.....
He jerked around for 2 weeks saying "yes ill buy" and even lowered the price. In the end he backed out saying he didnt need it anymore.
Terrible...
But thats why sellers will sell to the first person that presents cash and picks it up right away_______________

yeah, well sometimes, that's not even enough--
i'm not going to name names (he's a relative newb here on rfd), but i once drove an hour from home to buy an item, for the exact price they asked (no lowball whatsoever), and when i got there, they actually tried to ask for more than their asking price!
unethical? yep.
i actually had to convince them that was bad faith dealing (i really don't know how some people have the balls to do it, actually).
i ended up not leaving them any feedback at all, but i should have left negs as a warning to future traders. . .
