Have any of you ever travelled to the Caribbean during Hurricane season?

Any stories or experiences you guys can share?

I'm suppose to leave for Cuba tomorrow around this time and the Hurricane that just turned into a cat 4 and passing over the Bahamas right now is obviously making me nervous.

Although they're saying it's going to keep heading up the north coast of the US.
I review video games I play here: https://www.backloggd.com/u/DrewM987/reviews/ and movies I watch here: https://letterboxd.com/DrewM87/films/reviews/.

Update both as I play new games or revisit old ones.

Many many many times... Hurricane season is from June 1st - until the end of October. Went to Mexico in August- but have been to Florida, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Bahamas during hurricane season more times then I can count.

The hurricane will not affect you as it's going the opposite direction. I would expect (maybe) some rain tomorrow or the day after but that's not even 100%. What part of Cuba are you going to? Did you check the weather report?

This is where the hurricane is heading- again nowhere near Cuba: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphic ... ml?5-daynl

This isn't my first time travelling to Cuba during Hurricane season. 2 years ago I went around late November. Last year I went right around this time of the year.

The weather in Cuba is suppose to fine. I did check and it's suppose to be 30+ everyday with a "chance of showers"

This is my 4th year in a row going to Cuba. Me and a couple of friends go to an all inclusive resort in Varadero every year. I don't know why I'm nervous this year. I guess because the previous years there wasn't a hurricane that was actually active when I was suppose to travel.

I think they're saying the north east tips of Cuba might receive a bit of rain from the outer tips of the hurricane but Varadero is on the opposite coast.

Went many times.

Caribbean is big. A storm or hurricane at one place, isn't necessarily going to affect other places.

Yep, flew in the same day the hurricane was hitting Cuba. Didn't affect my trip one bit, but friends of mine who flew in a day earlier had a 12 hour delay at YYZ. Other than that, no problems

Just got back from Cuba yesterday after spending a week in Cayo Coco - yeah, the last couple of days we had higher winds/waves which messed things up at the beach. So you're kind of taking your chances going at this time of year, which is the heart of the hurricane season. October is generally the worst month for that stuff. It usually affects the northern coast of Cuba more than the southern coast, but you really can't be sure.

Let me tell you, though - other than the last couple of days, the rest of it was great. Water and beach were gorgeous. Spent so much time out there that I got burned, and I already have a pretty dark complexion plus was using sunblock.

Damn those hurricanes.

I went to cancun, flew over hurricane Katrina the day before it hit New Orleans. The captain even told us to look out the window at it. spent 2 weeks in cancun and it didn't rain once.

Had a bit a rain in Mexico, but rain passes by so quickly and it's so warm there everything is dried again within an hour.

"Hurricane " in 95% of cases usually just means some rain. In the other 5% of cases, or even less, its the massive destruction that you see on the news.
The likelihood of you running into anything too "bad" is low.

My cruise was supposed to be in Nassau on Friday. The captain made the decision on Wed morning to avoid the region as best he could. We detoured south, as close to Cuba as possible. We had cloudy skies and rain on Friday morning, but it was a hot sunny day by the afternoon. The satellite map showed us in the outer ring of the hurricane.

Thanks Captain!

Yes I have many times, never been hit by a hurricane, I think overall the chances are rather slim

I came back from my trip last night. The weather was incredible. Best weather out of the 4 years Ive been to Cuba in a row.

Sunny, hot, no rain, perfect swimming conditions etc....

Love Cuba :)
