I currently have two phones: a personal iphone 4 and a blackberry 9900 provided from work. I pay approximately $50/month for my iphone (Rogers, 500 MB data plan) and my 3-year contract is finally coming to an end in a few months. Should I end my cell phone contract with Rogers and instead get an ipad 3 with 4G and pay approximately $25/month for 1GB data through Rogers? I do a lot of gaming/web browsing/reading and would really appreciate a bigger and more vibrant screen like that on an ipad 3. Also, if I do get an ipad 3 and get rid of my current iphone 4, do I need to buy my apps brand new or can I somehow transfer my apps from my phone over to the ipad?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

You could always get a Galaxy Note.
It couldd be possibly the perfect tablet/phone solution. iPad is more for at home use.

Company Phone
If your company allows you to use the company phone for personal use, then get rid of your personal phone. Keep in mind, you will need to give everyone a new number to call. If you ever leave that company, you will lose the phone number.
The other choice is to get the cheapest package you can find for your iPhone and just forward all your calls to your company phone. This way you can keep your personal number.
If your 9900 is not on BES, you can install 7.1 OS on the 9900 and it offers Mobile Hot Spot. Then just get an iPad and use the 9900 as a WiFi hotspot.
Either way, you don't need to renew with Rogers. Unless you want to keep the number.

I was in the same boat as you 6 months ago. Switched over to BB cause the company gave me a paid phone.... Needless to say I miss my iPhone dearly. I just picked up the iPad 3, no regrets here.

This is the scenario where it makes sense for you to get an LTE iPad since you probably won't/can't tether from your BB. So long as you can use the company phone for personal.

If you log in to the App store with the same Apple account you can just redownload all the apps without repurchasing them (unless the app has separate different versions for iPhone/iPod and iPad). There is a limit to how many devices can share the account this way, but it's something like 5 or 10, definitely more than 2.

It may be important to be aware that where an employer provides a work tool, like a mobile phone, the phone and it's records are the property of the employer. Some employers may charge employees fees for non-work usage. Some employers may discipline employees, including dismissing the employee, for unauthorized or unreported personal use.
In addition, because the work tool is the property of the employer, the employer may exercise its discretion to view phone records, including numbers called and text messages sent/received.
These may not be issues for some people. For others, these may be sufficient reasons to decide to keep a personal phone.
For myself, I decided to end my mobile phone service and get an iPad 3. I don't use my phone much, so having something like Skype or Magic Jack will likely be sufficient for the few calls that I make. (Last year I was in Mexico for five weeks and phoned BC almost every day using MJ. Sure it wasn't crystal clear calling, but it was free!)
I kept my iPhone 3GS. Because it was a Rogers phone I was able to get it permanently unlocked by Rogers for $50 while I still had the Rogers account. Soon, I will get a $25 Speakeasy card and my wife will use the iPhone as an emergency phone. The 911 fee will use up $1.25/month, but I'm guessing the $25 should get us through the year.

Well. I have my company's BB and I got rid of my phone. Get a Playbook that can be tethered to the BB and now I can surf on the road with 6GB of data paid by company. Don't see the need of keeping 2 phones and paying one for personal use. Number change just a phone call or email away so not a hassle.
