Just get the 360 HDDVD player since it is only $200 and is apparently pretty good from the reviews it's received

na, you can get a hda2 for 369. The pic quality is better, it's much more convienient and you dont have to move that Brick of a power supply if you want to move the player to another TV.

HD-DVD will stick around for a while but Blu Ray will be the winner. If you're looking for a temporary HD-DVD setup, then the choice is clear to go ahead with the HD-DVD add on for Xbox. Also, with the HD-DVD add on you can always hook it up to your computer and use it to copy HD-DVD movies to Blu Ray discs when Blu-Ray discs become more affordable.

Will we ever have a thread that doesn't turn into a HD DVD vs. BD.

it only finds the term "HD DVD" and "winning" on the same page.
even "Blu Ray Winning over HD DVD" would count as a searched item under the first heading.
Now the same theory can't apply to "Blu ray winning". why? no reason it just can't. why is the earth round, i don't know, it just is. whatever.
Going back on topic, i'd probably for the standalone player. who knows what defects can be found on the xbox 360 drive.Last edited by Sohjonn; Jul 15th, 2007 at 11:43 PM.

Save your money and just get the xbox drive. You don't have a 1080p tv so there's no point in spending a lot of money.

I have a Xbox 360 HD DVD and the only downside over a stand alone HD DVD player is that it cant decode or pass through HD audio (no Dolby TrueHD or PCM) to your home threatre. The best it can do is Dolby Digital/DTS.
If you have a nice audio setup then thats a deal breaker in my opinion._______________
