There should be a pinhole on the front of the drive. Power down your PC, stick a pin into that pin hole and the drive should unlock.

HD-DVD stuck in Sony DVD Recorder
I own a Sony DVD Recorder (I think I bought it in mid-late 2006). I tried to play an HD-DVD in it (was told this was fine), but not only does it not play, but the tray won't open and I can't get the disk out!! Any ideas on how to get the tray to open (other than using a screwdriver, hammer or other subtle devices)?

There usually is a reset button somewhere, mine is in the lower front behind the small panel.

Try powering up and pressing eject before the machine tries to read the disc.

if the HDDVD was a hybrid disk that had a DVD layer on it as well it would have worked, if it was just a standard HDDVD it wouldn't have worked. There is no reason why the disk is stuck, maybe just bad luck. Try to power it off and power it back on while pressing the eject button, if not look for a pinhole hole somewhere to eject it manually.

Sometimes, a player or drive will try to keep reading a disc, which causes the lockup.
