[Home Depot] HD: Ryobi 18V Li-ion Drill & Impact Drive kit $99

http://www.homedepot.ca/product/18v-lit ... kit/965648

HD is selling a 18V Ryobi drill and impact driver kit for $99 with lithium ion batteries. I bought the Ni-Cad kit for $59 and it works great for my needs but there were complaints from some RFD'ers about the Ni-Cad batteries.

Edit: I think it only comes with ONE battery but I think it's still a warm deal.

One half capacity battery, and a dual-chemistry charger (but not the 1-hour charge one, it will still take several hours)

Checking HD's prices for the LiOn 18v battery, it is $79.99, and the dual chemistry charger is $39.99. Buying these separately will cost $118.00 + GST.

I wonder if it will be worth it to buy this kit, and sell the drill and driver units separately and keep the charger and batteries.

It would work...but I think you'll be hard pressed to find someone willing to buy the kit without batteries.

Why do you believe it's only 1 battery, cause of the description on the website?

Not sure why there is a slight model number difference but according to the website the new limited time offer drill/driver kit comes with 2 batteries:
http://www.ryobitools.com/catalog/power ... _kits/P839

P838 vs P839 could be a difference of 1 battery but it seems strange they would sell it with just the one.

EDIT: Also, if it does include 2 batteries this is definitely hot. The $79 for just the compact drill lion not too long ago was quite popular and comparatively this is an extra $20 for the impact driver (normally priced at I think $179?)

It only comes with one battery for the Li-Ion kit as I saw that as well but picked up the Nicad deal for $59.99 instead.

The impact driver in this kit have more torque/rpm but with a slightly less impacts per min than the one in the previous $59 NiCD bundle
The charger is an dual chemistry (NiCd and Lithium) IntelliPort one, charges in 8 hours and tells you when it's charged as opposed to the dumb overnight "10-12 hours" trickle charger

P234G
0-2600 RPM
1500 in/lb
3200 IPM

vs

P231
0-2400 RPM
1200 in/lb
3500 IPM

It seems like the tools are a little different among bundles (especially vs US bundles) vs bought separately, you loose the LED, smaller chuck, etc.
The US P839 bundle have the 1/2 in chuck drill, 1 hour charger, 2 batteries and a bag! Not sure about the price though

I got this for Christmas and am very happy with it. I had the Ryobi Ni-Cad and the it is well worth the extra bucks for the Li-On. The battery lasts a long time when using it with the drill, and unlike the Ni-Cad does not drain out if left sitting for a long time between uses. I also like the smaller battery for a drill, as it is lighter.

I believe he was referring to this thread:

amazon-ca-great-deal-bosch-12v-max-tools-1177079/

Get a Bosch impact drill kit w/ 2 batteries + case and get a Bosch drill for free ($100 value); You also get a $40 instant rebate for buying $200+ worth of Bosch tools (the cost of the free drill can be included when calculating the instant rebate). And for a brief time, you could also get a third battery included for free. But that offer has ended.

So an impact drill kit would be $165, minus $40 rebate, works out to $125, with a free drill, 2 batteries, 30 minute rapid charger and case.

Dont know where youre getting those prices from. The amazon link above is all $$300 +
Also, if its 12v that isnt comparable to 18v.

I just clicked on the link and it shows all the Bosch tools having ~50% discounts. And it still has the free drill promotion as stated at the top of the page.

Also, you can't compare voltage alone. The Bosch drills are lighter and smaller, so it allows you to get into tighter spaces. Charger is a fast, 30-min. charger. Comes with 2 batteries instead of 1. Read through the other thread... RiP gave a pretty good review of the Bosch drills.

For what its worth, 18v Ryobi's aren't known for their quality while the 12v Bosch is good enough for the majority of people considering this deal.

Looked at the specs of the 12v impact, comparable to the 18v ryobi, so seems descent. Ive used bosch on a few jobs and loved them, but never used the 12v. Went to HD one day, and they tried to sell me a 12v Milwaukee that seemed ok.
