HELP: Apple iMac 27" screen borders too big

My Apple iMac seems to extend the screen borders beyond the actual physical border of the screen.

So when I move the mouse around, I have to pull it down to find the icons on the bottom, then I gotta go all the way to the top before I can see the File,Edit bar.

I googled and the Zoom function isn't checked at all, so I don't know what's wrong.

Thanks in advance.

i think you've set your resolution too high. drop it down a few notches and see how it fits.

It's the resolution. My dad had this problem on his 55" plasma and I just changed the res (can't remember what it was)

2560x1440 is the native resolution of that monitor - a 16:9 ratio.

You should always have it at this resolution for the highest quality image. Setting it to 1920x1080 (16:9) may cause a stair stepping effect on curves and diagonal straight lines.

Viewing HD video at 1920x1080 on it should be fine as the video gets interpolated to display on the higher resolution screen.

I don't know the Apple OS so can't say for sure but you should not be able to set it to a higher resolution such as 2560x1600 (16:10) but it sounds like you may have done that.

i have it set to 2560x1440

If I bring it down a notch I get black borders, but STILL within those borders it's like my screen extends beyond those stationary black borders...

Is there anything in the iMac video utility that would allow an overscan?

+1

This is almost certainly the issue. The mac's built in screen zoom utility was probably in use.
