Hey guys, I think my line is "out of sync" at the cottage.
I have the 1Mbps Bell DSL here. The modem is a SpeedStream 6300.
I connect my wireless router to the modem, and then 2 PCs get on the network wirelessly.
The internal wireless LAN works perfectly. But the DSL line disconnects every 10 minutes or so.
No matter what you're doing (browsing, e-mail), the internet will die off in 10 minutes. The DSL light on the modem is still solid as if there is internet, but it stops.
If I am downloading something (be it a file off FTP or a torrent), then the connection lives for roughly 5 minutes.
I always have to restart the modem via power cord.
I've troubleshooted everything on my side, so I think the line is out of sync.
Possible? Your thoughts?![]()

Did you register the MAC address of your router with Bell?

I would blame the router first. Let me guess, it is a DLink-624.

Check router settings? Sepcifically the one about the Keep Alive period. Doubt that will help though.

I just had to restart the modem again...
The router is a D-Link DI-524. I know, I know - it's garbage. But it has worked, and continues to work perfectly. It's got the latest firmware, too.
It's set on "Always connected" and the "Maximum idle time" is 480 minutes.
If it helps any, there's something wrong with my phoneline when I call someone, too. When I call someone from the cottage, they report that they hear me at a low volume and there's always some static, too.
I've tried using the DSL modem from a different phonejack (with a short 6 foot cable always) and the results are the same._______________

Not sure how Bell works, but with Telus, unless you register your router with them, you can only have one connection at a time. It will disconnect the others.
I have a 524 too, and don't really have much problems with it. Switch around the encryption methods, some seem to work better than others.

I had the same thing happen to me twice in the last 2 months. the dsl light on the modem would turn off then come back a few minutes later trying to re-sync. Eventually some techie from bell came and said it was due to a problem with the phone line and fixed it.

It is most likely a problem with the phoneline as you suggest.
About 1.5 years ago, I had the same problem at the cottage. Bell sent a techie. Except the techie did something on the street, and never visited my home. It's been working since then...until last month.
Well I'll call them on Monday and see what can be done. Even if I no longer purchase my internet directly from Bell, it is still THEIR phoneline._______________
