wow, so many possibilities....
defrag/check disc.... I had a friends pc do something similiar... I would copy all the music to nero... and nero would just go away. It was having trouble reading from the source hdd.... (just a though)
I would also do a windows repair (leaving all your data intact).
virus scans/spyware
then theres the usual, update the bios, drivers etc.... but that aint right!
I typed this into google "Windows explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close error?
gave some results... but I think you have total system instability... so I would do the above basics and go from there...

HELP: every program "needs to close"
Hey guys
I need some help. Every program on my PC seems to "need to close".
For example, I want to burn a CD.
So I copy the files I want, hoping to paste.
But after I copy, I get:
"Windows explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
So I then try to enter nero and as soon as I paste from somewhere,
I get
"
"nero.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Driving me nuts!

I am experiencing the same thing but only with my DVD burning software. I can burn a CD, but neither Sonic nor ULead DVD burning software work. I have home movies that I transferred to my hard drive from VCR into Mpeg format that I haven't been able to transfer to DVD. The tech support at Ulead are still working with me on this. The last thing they told me to do was uninstall previously downloaded codecs, which helped with the playability of these Mpeg files on my computer but did not resolve the DVD burning issue. I get the same "encountered a problem ..and has to close" error.

Did your computer always have this problem?
If you recently installed a program/patch, try to uninstall it.

hey guys
cleared my machine of 4 trojan viruses. but still getting the same problem.
I tried Adaware but my Adaware is screwed up, crashes all the time.
How do I clean up my Windows?
I looked at the error report and there were all these DLL files that had problems I think. I couldn't copy and paste the error message unfortunately. But I do know that explorer.exe had the error.
Seems like it's a problem with copy and paste from a folder I FolderGuard-protected before. (uninstalled that program and still got the problem)
As a sidenote, when I restart my machine, I get this message: "Not installed!"
(nothing else besides that) and I close that stupid little window.Last edited by espeed; Aug 25th, 2006 at 01:03 PM.

backup and reinstall windows.......probably much easier than the headache of trying to clean this up. Plus make sure you add antivirus first and then do the Windows Update and Service Packs...
What Windows version is this ? XP or 2000 or..........

Aug 25th, 2006 10:12 PM #10I was thinking of this too, but the only problem is...the computer won't let me copy and paste info from the folders I wanted to copy, so I'm not sure how I'll backup the info first
