the hauppauge tuner do not record in widescreen, because the signal from the wall isnt widescreen. just regular 4:3 comes out of the wall.
i know on my HTPC i would still have the two bars on the left/right side, until i turn on the VMR9 rendering, then it lets me fill the whole screen or if u wanna call it widescreen.
so instead of the widescreen feature, see if u can turn on VMR9 rendering or something along those lines.
i dont use the WinTV application, so i have no clue what kind of options the thing has

Help! Hauppage TV Tuner No Longer Does Widescreen
Folks, this is a huge emergency according to my baby sister. Her Hauppauge WinTV program no longer provides a widescreen image as it used to on her widescreen LCD computer monitor. We checked the instruction manual and changed the preferences but it's not working. Everything else works great.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would be interested in knowing how she does it in widescreen in the first place.
My way to get around it (with WinTV) is to resize the 'No Title' mode to fill up the whole screen. Or you can download the newest WinTV2000 thingie and it is supposed to support 16:9.
I feel for her and can't stand any black bars myself.

Ok...let's take this one at a time:
A. No idea what VMR9 is...
B. No idea how she got it to work in the first place. The "No Title" mode suggestion doesn't work.
C. May have to download either the WinTV2000 thingie or some of the other programs mentioned.
Thanks all.

A-- VideoMediaRenderer9 (VMR9) just a fancy name for a Windows video rendering codec.
B-- no clue
C-- highly recommended, as u can tell, not many people use the WinTV software. try maybe googling regarding wintv and widescreen.
what about using the zoom function on the tv itself?? i know my sony will change the "aspect" of the screen as the thing calls it.
u have "Standard" then "Stretch/Wide Zoom" and "Zoom" which would give u a similar affect like widescreen, because it zooms into the picture getting rid of the black bars._______________
