Help with a home theatre setup??
Hi all
I'm trying to setup a low end sanyo home theatre system up at the cottage.
I'm using RCA plugs( yellow, white and red) and s-video.
I have the following components:
- a Sanyo DVD player/receiver (The type that comes with 6 speakers/home theatre in a box)
- a FTA satellite receiver
- a regular television
- a pvr
- regular analog cable
My question is, how would I go about connecting all of this???
Please keep in mind that I'm new to this and that I don't want to spend any $$ on new monster cables or anything like that. I'm willing to spend some $ for a cable here or there. This setup is for the cottage after all.
The only thing I ask is that I have the ability record on the pvr anything that I watch from what I see on cable or sat. I'd also like the ability to hear whatever I see through all of the speakers.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
I'm willing to take pics of the back of each component if necessary.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

They did come with a manual, but they are useless.
Like I said, the only thing I ask is that I have the ability to record on the pvr anything that I watch from what I see on cable or sat. I'd also like the ability to hear whatever I see through all of the speakers.
Any suggestions???

Cable & sat. to PVR to receiver to TV & speakers.
And use the highest quality connection available.
Component > S-Video > Composite.

Thanks for responding guys, I do appreciate it.
However, what do you exactly mean by:
Cable & sat. to PVR to receiver to TV & speakers.
What exactly goes to the pvr?
Could you provide a little more detail, please?

Ummm...maybe you should try to find a tech savvy friend or friend of a friend to help you, otherwise this can be a long thread, very long. There are many different ways to setup your configuration.
If you still want to do it via this thread you need to start by describing the type of audio and video connections all your devices have. Especially your receiver because if it can do audio/video switching, then all the devices will be connected to it.

VIDEO
Based on your pictures your receiver does not do any video switching (no video inputs), as a result you need to plug all video directly to your tv. We dont know what TV inputs you have. You should start with the best connection possible until you run out and then move to the next best connection.
From Best to Worst:
HDMI/DVI > Component (Red/Blue/Green RCA Connectors) > S-Video > Composite (Single Yellow RCA Connector)
AUDIO
Your receiver has two stereo inputs so you will only be able to get audio from two external devices unless you get a external switchbox.
So plug in the stereo audio output (red/white) from the PVR and Sat Receiver to your Sanyo Receiver (Audio In)

Cable connects to Ant. In on PVR.
Connect red/white/yellow from sat to Audio/Video In on PVR.
Connect Audio Out from PVR to Audio In on receiver.
Connect Video Out from PVR and Monitor Out from receiver to Video In on switchbox.
Connect Video Out from Switchbox to Video In on TV.
Here is an example of a Switchbox. Link
