Help identify insect invading my house

Hi. Turning to RFDers to identify these small winged inspects that appeared today near my garage. There must've been 50. I took some pics. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Not see if they're harmless or if I should be worrris and do something. Thanks in advance.

Ants can fly? Now I've heard it all ;)

Thanks for the input. Thought it could something more serious.

Make sure they aren't winged termites.

Ant queens fly to make a new colony. Heathy any colonies spawn flyers
Gbill2004: Thanks but I'll just smell the couch before/if I buy it.

jonnyb: I go in there like PICASSO and toss the glue everywhere, I don't care what house I'm on.

Agreed. My car was covered with them this morning. Annoying but it will pass.

You can often find where the nest, you'll see them coming out of the ground. Boil some water on the stove and dump on the area to get rid of them.

They do look like flying ants. Weird, we get them in May/June for a very short time, a week or two?... have never seen them this time of year.
That's my 2cents worth

Reminiscent of "Rain Flies".
Right now I have a recurrence of fruit flies in my Kitchen after they disappeared in July.
Haven't put any fruits out on the kitchen counter but may have come from eggs maybe some old Kale I threw in the garbage yesterday.
Hate these things for sure as they hang around for weeks before they are all gone.

The annual ant mating frenzy...a few queens and millions of males. They'll be gone on 2-3 days until this time next year.

Indeed. They're gone. Until 2018!
