Try to disconnect one of the IDE drives to see if you can.

Help for my sata
I just bought a 500G sata2 HD . My MB could find it in BOIS and windows XP could find it as well , but I just could not do the Format in Computer Management .I already upgrade the BOIS and reinstalled the Driver for chipset.
This 500G HD is my only sata HD ,All the others are EIDE HD.
My MB is ABIT KN8 SLI .AMD 3500+.

Thx for helpLast edited by wanfish; Feb 21st, 2008 at 11:35 AM.

You need to 'Initialize', and then 'Format'; I've forgotten where 'Initialize' is hidden.

I do need to 'Initialize' the SATA HD , but xp hides this option .You need to click the button on the left side which disk 1 ,disk2,.... stay . and you can find the 'Initialize' option . Damn microsoft .why they don't put it in right click pop .
Thank for you help . Good luck

It makes sense how MS does it.
If you right-click on where a partition does not exist, it's not going to give you the format option because you can't format a non-existing partition.
