BINGO!!!

4 bedroom house.

Don't use GIC, it's stupid and pays less interest than inflation.

Mutual funds are ok but make sure they are index mutual funds with a low MER (1% max). Which bank doesn't matter, all the banks are the same.

Don't take vacation. You have everything you need in canada, why you need to go somewhere else? If you like other places so much why did you come to canada then? Go back and live there.

This is terrible advice! He needs the money in one year and you'd have him investing in the stock market? He needs a place to put his money for one year with very little risk; that's either GICs or savings accounts.

I'd say GIC.
