Depends on how fast you drive on the 401/416. There's only two routes I've ever used.Originally Posted by BuddyGuy

There are only 2 routes as mentioned in the previous post. The difference in distance between taking Hwy 15 and 401/416 is 50 km (or there about) more if you take 401/416 route.
Where are you going in Ottawa? If you're going somewhere in the Ottawa core, then either way is about the same. It all depends on how fast you drive on a highway vs single lane road and what time of day.
If you're driving during the day, hwy 15 is usually more busy and more slow downs around the major towns you pass through: Smiths Falls and Carleton Place.
I like taking 15 because it's more scenic and I have no issues with passing cars and trucks. If you're not comfortable with that, then take the highway.

No way is going to be faster taking the 2 lane Hwys especially Hwy 7 between Carleton Place and Ottawa. I routinely get backed up behind a Loblaws semi or grandma. Take the 401/416 route. I find it moves much more consistently.
